Nissan Versa 2020 - start from 105 AED / day

No deposit needed to drive away in one, and that alone makes the Nissan Versa 2020 worth a look if you want a budget sedan in Dubai without tying up cash. We hand it over at your door, usually within an hour or two, and it sits at the value end of our older-year stock. That's the whole pitch here. It's a cheap, roomy commuter with a big boot, a comfortable back seat, and frugal running costs, at a softer rate than the newer Versa years. The trade is a basic cabin and a relaxed engine. For a week of city driving and airport runs, that trade usually makes sense.

A roomy budget sedan at an older-year rate

The reason to pick the 2020 over the 2021 or 2025 Versa is simple. It does the same core job, carrying people and luggage cheaply, for less money. You're not paying for newer screens or a fresher badge, and if you don't care about those, the saving is real.

What you get is genuine sedan space on a compact footprint. The wheelbase is long for the class, so rear legroom beats what the rate suggests. Two adults sit comfortably in the back for an airport transfer or a day out, and a third fits for shorter hops. The seats are flat and the materials plain, but the room is honest.

Does your airport luggage actually fit

This is where the Versa earns its keep. The boot holds 416 litres, which is large for a car this cheap, and it's a wide, deep, square space rather than a shallow tray. Two big suitcases plus a couple of cabin bags go in without a fight, so a family arriving at DXB with a week's luggage is covered. Drop the rear seats and you'll swallow a flat-pack run or a few weeks of moving boxes.

That makes it a sensible airport pickup. You meet your group at arrivals, the cases go in the boot rather than on laps, and nobody is wedged against a bag for the drive to the hotel. A hatch in the same price band rarely manages that.

How often you'll stop to refuel

The 1.6 returns about 7.8 L/100 km on the combined cycle, and in Dubai mixed driving you'll see something close to that, a little worse in heavy stop-and-go. With a 41-litre tank, a realistic range lands around 450 to 500 km. For most renters that's one fill near the start of the week and you're done, even with daily commutes and a few longer runs.

The engine itself is relaxed rather than quick. Around town and at a steady highway cruise it's fine and quiet. Push it hard, an uphill overtake or a fast slip-road merge, and the CVT lets the revs flare and hold while the car gathers pace. It drones under that load. Drive it gently and it stays smooth and economical, which suits the way most people use a rental here.

On Sheikh Zayed Road and the airport runs

The Versa cruises happily at Dubai highway speeds. Sit it at 100 to 120 on the E11 and it's settled and stable enough for daily commuting between communities or a DWC run on the far side of town. It's not built for spirited overtaking, so plan your moves on a busy multi-lane and don't expect it to surge past a truck on demand. For steady point-to-point driving it does the job without complaint.

Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are the renter's responsibility, so keep an eye on the gantries and the speed limits. Seat belts are required in every seat, front and back.

Parking and the heat

At under 4.5 metres long and narrow with it, the Versa is easy to place. Tight Marina ramps, multi-storey bays, and mall U-turns are all simple, and the light steering helps in a packed car park. Visibility out is good for a budget sedan.

The AC matters more than anything else in a Dubai summer. After the car has baked in a 45-degree car park, the front vents pull the cabin down to comfortable within a few minutes of driving, which is what you want. There are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers wait a touch longer on the hottest days. Park in shade where you can and it's a non-issue for the front two.

Who should rent it, and who should skip it

Rent the Versa 2020 if you want the cheapest comfortable sedan we keep, you value boot space and back-seat room over cabin polish, and you're mostly doing city errands, commutes, and airport transfers. As a value commuter and airport pick, it's hard to beat at this rate.

Step up to a midsize sedan like an Altima or Sonata if you'll spend real time at high speed on the E11, carry four adults regularly, or simply want a quieter, quicker, better-finished cabin. And if it's just you running short hops around the city with light luggage, a small hatch is cheaper still and easier to park, so take that instead. The Versa is the pick when you need the room and the boot without the price climbing.
