The Nissan Sunny 2025 is the newest model year we run, and it is built mainly for the renter who wants a proper automatic sedan for a Dubai week without paying for room they will not use. Rent one and we can have it at your door within one to two hours, home, hotel or the airport, with no showroom stop required. It is a five-seat economy sedan on a 1.6-litre engine and a CVT gearbox, and the freshest thing about the 2025 model year is the car itself, not a new engine or a longer feature list. For one person, or two people travelling together, it is close to the cheapest sensible way into an automatic here. This page checks what that low price actually buys, and where a bigger group needs to look elsewhere.
The Sunny runs the same 1.6-litre four, the HR16DE, that has powered this generation since it landed in the GCC: 118 hp and 149 Nm sent through an Xtronic CVT to the front wheels. A new model year does not bring a new drivetrain, and nothing about how it drives will surprise anyone who has rented an earlier Sunny. It settles into 120 km/h on Sheikh Zayed Road without strain, and the CVT keeps the cabin quiet at a steady cruise. Ask it for a quick pass with the air conditioning on and another person in the car, and the revs rise before the speed follows. That is a real limit if your week involves a lot of fast overtaking, not something you will notice on a normal commute or an airport run.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol (HR16DE) |
| Power | 118 hp |
| Torque | 149 Nm |
| Transmission | Automatic, Xtronic CVT |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Boot | 490 litres |
| Fuel economy | About 18 km/l combined (quoted); nearer 13-14 km/l in city traffic |
| Fuel tank | 41 litres |
| Range | About 550 km in city driving, more on the highway |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,496 x 1,740 x 1,460 mm |
| Colour | White |
The boot holds 490 litres, large for an economy sedan and bigger than most hatchbacks charging similar money. One traveller with a big suitcase and a laptop bag, or two people sharing a week's luggage, load it without any rearranging. The back seat has genuine legroom for one adult on a longer drive or two on a short hop, so a couple heading to dinner or the airport together will not feel cramped. Push it to four adults with bags for a full day out and the cabin tightens fast, since neither the seat nor the modest engine were built with a full back row in mind.
Parking suits a solo renter just as well. At 4,496 mm long and 1,740 mm wide, the Sunny slots into a tight multi-storey bay without the mirror-folding routine wider sedans force on you, and it is short enough for a clean U-turn on a narrow street. It sits low, so take a steep basement ramp or a sharp speed bump gently rather than at pace.
This booking includes 2,500 km for the whole rental, not a daily figure that resets every morning. That distinction matters: a solo renter doing a commute, a grocery run and the odd airport trip rarely clears 300 or 400 km in a week, which leaves most of the 2,500 sitting unused for a longer drive later in the rental, an Abu Dhabi trip or a Hatta loop included. Go past the allowance and extra kilometres cost AED 1 each, higher than some other cars on our list, so a driver planning heavy mileage from day one should budget for that rather than treat it as loose change. Drivers need to be 25 or older to book this one.
Fuel stays cheap regardless. Nissan quotes a combined figure around 18 km per litre for the 1.6, though Dubai's stop-start traffic with the AC working through the afternoon brings that closer to 13 or 14 in real city driving. The 41-litre tank still covers roughly 550 km of ordinary use, so a solo renter or a couple doing errands and a commute might visit a pump once in a week. Salik tolls apply at every gate the car passes, and any RTA fine picked up during the rental is yours to settle, both small against what you save on the daily rate.
Heat is worth being honest about. A Sunny left parked through a Dubai afternoon will be brutal to climb back into, the same as any car left in that sun, but its small cabin actually helps here because there is less air for the AC to fight. Aim the front vents at yourself and it clears in a few minutes rather than dragging on. There is no rear vent, so a passenger in the back seat waits longer on the worst days, one more reason this car makes more sense for one or two people than a full back row.
Book the 2025 Sunny if you are travelling alone or as a couple and want an automatic without paying mid-size money for it. Set against a Yaris sedan or an MG5 at similar rates, it usually hands you the bigger boot for a smaller bill, and with a mileage pool rather than a daily cap, you are not doing arithmetic every morning either.
Two situations call for something bigger. A full week with four adults and their luggage will work, but the back seat and the modest engine both feel the load, so a mid-size sedan earns its extra cost there. And if your days are built around fast overtaking rather than a steady cruise, the CVT will hold a highway speed happily but will not reward a heavy right foot. Outside those two cases, the newest Sunny on the fleet does what a solo renter or a couple actually needs from a Dubai week, and it does it for less than most of the class.
