Two costs sit outside fuel, and they land on you no matter what you rent. Salik charges at every toll gate, so a daily run down Sheikh Zayed Road adds up over a week. Any RTA fine issued during the rental is yours too. Neither is large on a car this size, but plan for them so the low daily rate stays low in practice.

Space, boot and passengers

Cabin cooling matters more here than the engine does. Leave the Sunny parked through a Dubai afternoon and it heats up like any car, but the small interior works in your favour because there is less air for the AC to pull down. Point the front vents at yourself and give it three or four minutes, and the cabin drops from unbearable to comfortable. There are no rear vents, so anyone in the back waits a little longer on the worst days. Parking in shade or underground when you can shortens that wait further.

Who should rent it, and who should size up

Rent the Sunny if your week is mostly city driving with the odd longer run: the commute, the grocery run, an airport pickup, a Friday drive out of town. Set against a Yaris sedan, an MG5 or a Corolla at similar money, it typically hands you the bigger boot and the roomier back seat, and that is the real case for picking it over a car with a fancier badge.

Two groups should look at something larger. Carry four adults with a full week of luggage and the Sunny copes, but comfort thins out fast, so a mid-size sedan is worth the extra cost. And if your driving is built around overtaking on a fast highway rather than cruising it, the modest power will test your patience more than it rewards a heavy right foot.
