Need a comfortable, cheap-to-run sedan for a week of Dubai commuting and airport runs? We hand over the Nissan Sunny 2023 to your door in Dubai, and every day comes with 250 km included, which is more road than most people use between Marina, Downtown and the office. The Sunny's pitch is simple. It gives you sedan room, a genuinely big boot and frugal fuel use for not much money. This page is about who that suits and who should spend a little more.
What you get for the rate is space rather than polish. The cabin is plain and the 1.6 engine is relaxed rather than quick, so the Sunny rewards the steady commuter, not the person chasing kit or pace.

The table is the reference. The rest of this page is what those numbers actually mean for a week behind the wheel.
This is where the Sunny earns its keep. At nearly 4.5 metres long it carries the space of cars a class above, and the back seat is the real surprise. Two adults sit there in comfort on a 40-minute run to the other side of town, and three fit for shorter hops without anyone complaining. For a small family or a group sharing rides, that back seat is the reason to book it over a hatchback.
The boot is the other strong point. At 416 litres it swallows two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags, so a DXB pickup with a family's luggage isn't the squeeze it is in most economy cars. If you're landing at DWC for a longer stay with four people and four hard cases, it gets tight, and that's the point where a midsize sedan starts to make sense. For two or three travellers with normal luggage, the Sunny has more than enough.
The 1.6 is built to sip, not to thrill. In mixed Dubai driving, expect somewhere around 6 litres per 100 km, a touch less on a clear highway run and more in heavy stop-and-go. With the 41-litre tank, that works out to roughly 600 km of real-world range, so a typical week of commuting and errands means one fuel stop, maybe none if your trips are short.
That frugality is a big part of why the Sunny books out for longer rentals. You pay the rate, you fill it once or twice, and the running cost stays low. Just remember Salik tolls and any RTA fines come back to you, so the gates on Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Garhoud will show up on the final bill.
Park a white sedan in open sun in July and the cabin hits oven temperature within minutes. The Sunny's AC is honest about its job. The front vents pull a parked cabin down to comfortable in a few minutes, which is what matters on a daily commute. There are no rear vents on this trim, so back-seat passengers cool more slowly on the worst afternoons. For two up front it's a non-issue. With kids in the back during a 45-degree heatwave, give it a head start before everyone climbs in.
Around town the Sunny is easy. Light steering, a soft ride over speed bumps, and a tidy enough size to thread through a mall car park or take a Marina ramp without scraping. The 118 hp engine has enough for city speeds and merges onto the E11 without drama.
Push it harder and the relaxed nature shows. Overtaking at 120 on Sheikh Zayed Road needs planning, and the engine gets vocal when you ask for a quick burst. It cruises happily at the limit, it just doesn't like being hurried. For airport runs, daily commuting and the school-and-mall routine, none of that registers. If your week is mostly fast intercity driving, a more powerful sedan will feel less stretched.
Parking is genuinely easy. The Sunny is compact enough for tight multi-storey bays and U-turns, with good visibility and a turning circle that suits crowded Dubai car parks. Seat belts are required in every seat, and under-fours need a child seat, so factor that in if you're travelling with little ones.
Book the Sunny if you want maximum sedan space and low fuel cost for the money. It's one of the smarter value picks for a commuter who carries passengers, a family doing mall and school runs, or anyone needing a proper boot for airport luggage without paying midsize money.
Skip it if you're driving solo and only need a runabout, where a small hatchback rents for less and parks even easier. And step up to a midsize sedan if you regularly carry four adults with full luggage or spend most of your week overtaking at highway speed. For the everyday Dubai mix of commuting, errands and the occasional airport run, the Sunny does the job and barely touches the fuel gauge.
