We hand over the Nissan Sentra 2024 across Dubai with 250 km a day included, which is enough road for most city weeks before you think about a top-up. It's the kind of compact sedan that photographs like something from a class above. The wide grille, the slim lights and the long roofline give it presence that flatters the driver more than the price tag suggests. What you're really renting, though, is an easy, comfortable saloon that swallows luggage, sips fuel and asks nothing of you on a school run or an airport dash. This page is about whether that's the right car for your week, and where you'd want something bigger or smaller instead.
Park the Sentra next to its rivals and it wins the first impression. The 2024 facelift sharpened the nose and the cabin, so it reads as a premium small saloon rather than a budget commuter. That matters more than people admit. If you're collecting a client from DXB or pulling up to a hotel, the car you arrive in is doing some of the talking, and the Sentra does it well without you paying for a badge.
The drive backs up the look on comfort, not on pace. The 2.0-litre engine makes 149 horsepower through a CVT to the front wheels, and it's tuned for calm rather than urgency. Around town and at a steady cruise on Sheikh Zayed Road it's quiet and relaxed. Ask for a hard overtake or a quick merge onto the E11 and the CVT lets the revs climb and hold, so you get a drone before you get real shove. Once you know to ease into the throttle instead of stamping on it, that habit fades and the car settles back into its comfort zone.
The cabin is a normal size for the class, which works in your favour in July. There's less air to chill, so the AC pulls a parked Sentra down from oven temperatures reasonably fast once you're moving. The front vents hit hard, and that's where you'll feel the relief first. Rear passengers get less of the blast, so on a 45°C afternoon with a full car, give it a few minutes with the fan up before everyone's settled. Park in shade when you can, because no compact sedan beats a covered bay at this time of year.
This is where the Sentra earns the airport job. The boot holds 405 litres, which is genuinely useful for a car this size. Two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags go in without a fight, so a couple flying in for a week, or a small family with sensible packing, won't be wedging cases onto the back seat. The boot opening is wide and the floor is flat, which makes loading at the kerb easy. If you're a group of four adults each with a big hard case, that's the point where a midsize sedan starts to make more sense.

The Sentra is cheap to run, and that's a real part of the appeal. Around 6.9 litres per 100 km combined is what the official figures suggest, and stop-start traffic with the AC working hard will push that up a bit in summer. Even so, the roughly 47-litre tank means a full fill comfortably covers a normal week of commuting and errands. You're not planning your week around the petrol station. A steady highway driver doing airport runs will likely top up just once across a week's rental.
At 4646 mm long the Sentra is compact enough to be painless in the city. It slots into tight multi-storey bays, the turning circle is friendly for U-turns, and visibility out of the front is good for a modern sedan. The 122 mm ground clearance is normal saloon territory, so take community speed bumps and steep mall ramps at a sensible crawl and you won't scrape. This isn't a car for unpaved tracks or kerb-hopping, and it doesn't pretend to be. On the surfaces a city renter actually uses, it's easy.
A couple of Dubai housekeeping notes. Salik tolls run up automatically as you pass the gantries and those are on you, as are any RTA fines during the rental. Belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back.
Rent the Sentra 2024 if you want a smart-looking, comfortable sedan for commuting, airport pickups and family errands, and you'd rather not pay for a bigger badge to get that polished look. It's frugal, the boot is honest, and it carries itself well above its rental class.
Step up to a midsize sedan if you're regularly four adults with full luggage, or you spend most of your week overtaking at speed on the E11 and want an engine that pushes back. Drop down to a hatchback if it's only ever you and the city, you park in the tightest spots in town, and you don't care about boot space or kerb appeal. For most people landing in Dubai wanting one easy, good-looking car for the week, the Sentra hits the spot.
