Nissan Sentra 2023 - start from 190 AED / day

We rent the Nissan Sentra 2023 across Dubai with 250 km a day included and a no-deposit option, which makes it one of the easier compact sedans to book for a low-fuss week. It's a five-seat economy saloon built around one idea: a comfortable, frugal car that swallows luggage and asks nothing of you on a commute or an airport run. The 2.0-litre engine and CVT are tuned for calm, not pace, and the boot is bigger than the class average. This page is about matching that to your week, and being clear about where you'd want something bigger or smaller instead.

Cheap to run, and comfortable with it

The Sentra's real appeal is the running cost. Figure on around 7 litres per 100 km combined, a little more in summer when stop-start traffic has the AC working against the heat. With the roughly 47-litre tank, a single fill comfortably covers a normal week of commuting and errands, so you're not planning your days around the petrol station. A steady highway driver doing airport runs will likely top up just once across a week's rental.

The comfort comes from how it's tuned rather than how it looks. The 2.0-litre makes 149 horsepower through a CVT to the front wheels, set up for relaxed cruising rather than urgency. Around town and at a steady clip on Sheikh Zayed Road it's quiet and easy. Ask for a hard overtake or a quick E11 merge and the CVT lets the revs climb and hold, so you get a drone before you get real shove. Ease into the throttle instead of stamping on it and the car settles straight back into its comfort zone.

The boot is where the Sentra earns the airport job. At 405 litres it's genuinely useful for a car this size. Two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags go in without a fight, so a couple flying in for a week, or a small family packing sensibly, won't be wedging cases onto the back seat. The opening is wide and the floor is flat, which makes kerbside loading quick. If you're four adults each with a full hard case, that's the point where a midsize sedan starts to make more sense.

Coping with Dubai heat

The cabin is a normal size for the class, which helps in July. There's less air to chill, so the AC pulls a parked Sentra down from oven temperatures reasonably fast once you're moving. The front vents hit hard, and that's where you feel the relief first. Rear passengers get less of the blast, so on a 45-degree afternoon with a full car, give it a few minutes with the fan up before everyone's comfortable. Park in shade when you can, because no compact sedan beats a covered bay at this time of year.

Parking, speed bumps and city driving

At 4646 mm long the Sentra is painless in the city. It slots into tight multi-storey bays, the turning circle is friendly for U-turns, and forward visibility is good for a modern sedan. Ground clearance is around 124 mm, normal saloon territory, so take community speed bumps and steep mall ramps at a sensible crawl and you won't scrape. This isn't a car for unpaved tracks or kerb-hopping, and it doesn't pretend to be. On the surfaces a city renter actually uses, it's easy to place and easy to live with.

A couple of Dubai housekeeping notes. Salik tolls run up automatically as you pass the gantries and those are on you, as are any RTA fines during the rental. Belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back, and child seats are required for under-fours.

The look, honestly

The 2023 Sentra reads as a smarter car than its rate suggests, with a wide grille and slim lights that give it more presence than a basic commuter. It won't turn heads like the sharper facelift that followed, but for pulling up to a hotel or collecting a client from DXB, it carries itself well above its rental class. Judge it as a comfortable, good-looking saloon rather than a driver's car and it delivers on exactly that.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Sentra 2023 if you want a comfortable, frugal sedan for commuting, airport pickups and family errands, with a boot that genuinely holds a week's luggage. It's cheap to run, easy to park and more presentable than the price implies.

Step up to a midsize sedan if you're regularly four adults with full luggage, or you spend most of your week overtaking at speed on the E11 and want an engine that pushes back. Drop to a hatchback if it's only ever you and the city, you park in the tightest spots in town, and boot space and kerb appeal don't matter to you. For most people wanting one easy, economical car for a Dubai week, the Sentra sits right in the sweet spot.
