Most renters who book a Nissan Sentra 2020 in Dubai aren't after thrills. They want a sedan that's cheap to run, big enough inside for the family, and parked at their door in an hour or two, which is how we deliver it. That's exactly what this car is. The 2.0-litre automatic does the daily commute, the school run and the airport drop without drama, and the cabin is roomier than the modest price suggests. Our argument is straightforward: for a couple or a small family who want sedan comfort on an economy budget, the Sentra is a sensible pick, as long as you go in knowing it's built for calm driving rather than quick driving. Here's where it works and where it doesn't.
Inside is where the Sentra earns the booking. It measures 4,641 mm long, which puts it at the larger end of the compact class, and the back seat is where you feel that. Two adults sit behind two adults for a week without anyone calling for a swap, and three across the back is fine for kids on shorter hops. The front seats are wide and soft, which counts for more in Dubai than any sense of sportiness, because most of your week is spent sitting in traffic rather than chasing corners.
For a family doing mall trips and drop-offs, the room is genuinely useful. Two child seats fit across the back without jamming knees into the seat ahead. It's a five-seater that actually works as one.

The 2.0-litre makes 149 hp through a CVT to the front wheels. Read that as calm, not quick. In the city it's smooth and quiet, and the gearbox keeps the revs low when you're pottering between lights. Ask for a hard overtake on Sheikh Zayed Road and it responds a moment late, with the familiar CVT drone as the engine rises before the speed follows.
For nearly everything a Dubai week involves, that's a non-issue. You cruise at 100 to 120, the cabin stays settled, and the car does its job. If you regularly want to surge past trucks in the outer lane, or you simply like a car that pulls when you ask, the Sentra will leave you wanting, and a bigger sedan like the Altima is the better fit. Booking it for commuting and errands? You'll forget the modest power within a day.
The trunk holds about 396 litres, which is solid for the class. Two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags drop in flat, so a family of four coming back from DXB or DWC isn't stacking cases on the back seat. For an economy sedan, the load space is one of the quiet reasons to choose it over a hatchback in the same bracket.
The rear seats fold if you need to carry something long, though for a normal week of travel you won't reach for that. The standard boot copes with most luggage loads on its own.
Real-world economy lands near 7.1 litres per 100 km on a mixed week of city and highway, a touch thirstier if you crawl into the centre in stop-start traffic every morning. With a tank of roughly 47 litres, that gives a realistic 600 to 650 km between fills, so most renters stop once a week, sometimes not at all on a lighter schedule. Fuel here is cheap, so even when the Sentra isn't sipping, it stays inexpensive to keep going.
Two local points sit with you as the renter. Salik tolls are charged to your rental as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fine picked up during the hire passes to you. Seat belts are required in every seat, and a child under four needs a child seat, which we can fit on request.
Dubai summers push past 45 degrees, and any car left in the open turns into an oven. The Sentra's AC is strong through the front vents and pulls a baking cabin down to comfortable within a few minutes, and the rear vents keep back-seat passengers from cooking on the school run. It's a proper four-person cooling setup, not a budget car that only chills the driver.
Parking is easy. At 1,816 mm wide with a tidy turning circle, the Sentra slips into Marina tower bays and mall multi-storeys without the wrestling a wider car demands. The light steering makes U-turns on the arterials painless. Ground clearance is modest at around 127 mm, so take steep ramps and aggressive speed bumps slowly, but on normal roads it's never a worry.
Book the Sentra 2020 if you want a comfortable, roomy, easy-to-park sedan for commuting, family errands and airport runs, and you'd rather spend your money on space than on badge or speed. The cabin and boot punch above the rate, and the AC handles a Dubai summer without complaint.
Look elsewhere if pace matters to you. Frequent highway overtaking or a heavy right foot points you to the Altima or a turbocharged rival. And if you're a solo driver doing only short city hops with no luggage, a small hatchback will cost less and park even more easily. For the daily Dubai grind with people and bags aboard, though, the Sentra is the calm, sensible choice, and it asks very little of your wallet to do it.
