That is the trip the Nissan Patrol 2025 gets booked for. We rent it in Dubai and can have it waiting at the terminal or your door within one to two hours of booking, so nobody stands around after a long flight. The question this page settles is the practical one you actually care about: will it take your whole group and their luggage in one run, or are you about to pay for a big SUV and still leave a bag behind?

Luggage first: will everyone's cases fit

Start with the boot, because on a group trip that is what decides everything. With all seven seats in use, the space behind the last row is modest. Think a few soft bags, a pushchair or the weekly shop, not a wall of hard suitcases. Nissan doesn't publish a clean cargo figure for this generation, so don't trust any single litre number you see quoted. What matters is what the seats let you do.

Fold one side of the third row and you get a long flat load bay for cases while still seating five or six. Drop the whole row and the Patrol swallows a big family's luggage for a week with room over the top. The honest limit is the rare case where you need every seat and full luggage at once. Seven passengers plus seven large cases will beat any three-row SUV, this one included, and you'll be packing soft bags or renting a second car. For most families that day never comes, because you're seldom full on both counts.

Seven seats that carry adults, not just kids

This is where the Patrol earns the size. Plenty of SUVs claim a third row, then hand you a bench only a child can sit on for more than twenty minutes. The Patrol's back row takes grown adults for a proper journey across town or out to the desert, and getting to it is easy because the middle row tips and slides out of the way. Nobody draws the short straw on the way to brunch.

The middle row is the comfortable part of the car, wide enough for three across or two adults with space to spare. For a group that splits between airport runs, mall trips and a day out of the city, seven people travel without anyone folding into a corner. That is the whole reason to book this much car rather than two smaller ones.

What a week costs to run

Big does mean thirsty, so budget for it. The 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 makes 425 hp and 700 Nm, and Nissan quotes 9.9 litres per 100 km combined. Real Dubai driving runs higher, because a two-and-a-half-tonne SUV crawling in traffic with the AC flat out will sit closer to 12 or 13. The 97-litre tank softens that, giving you a long run between fills even with a heavy right foot.

Mileage is the number to read before you book. The daily allowance is 250 km, then AED 0.5 for every kilometre over. City life and airport runs stay well under that, but a full day out to Hatta and back, or a run up the coast, needs a quick tally first. Salik tolls and any RTA fines are on you, the renter, as they are with every car we hand over. In a Patrol the kilometres pile up fast, simply because it makes long drives feel like nothing.

Motorway cruising, tight bays and the dunes

On the E11 the Patrol is exactly where it wants to be. It settles at 120, stays quiet, and the twin-turbo V6 has enough in reserve that overtaking a slow lorry takes no planning at all. It reaches 100 km/h in about 6.7 seconds, quick for something this size and a real step on from the old V8 model.

The size only bites when you park. At over five metres long and two metres wide, tight multi-storey bays and Marina tower ramps ask for patience and the cameras. The 273 mm of ground clearance, on the other hand, turns speed bumps and steep mall ramps into non-events. Heat is the other thing every renter asks about, and a cabin this big needs a strong system to cope. It does. The AC pulls the temperature down quickly after hours in a July car park, and the rear vents mean third-row passengers get real cold air rather than whatever drifts back from the front.

Off the tarmac, the capability is genuine and worth taking seriously. This is a body-on-frame 4x4 with a low-range transfer case and a sand setting, so the dunes are within reach rather than a marketing line. Be straight with yourself before you try, though. Dune driving is a skill, not a button. Drop your tyre pressures, carry recovery gear, and go in convoy with someone who knows the route. Most Patrol rentals never leave the blacktop, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Who should book it, who should scale down

Book the Patrol 2025 if you're a big family or a group travelling together with luggage, or if your week genuinely mixes airport runs, seven passengers and a day in the sand. Nothing in this class does the people-and-cargo job with less compromise, and the new V6 makes it a nicer drive than the model it replaced. You'll need to be 25 to take the keys.

Scale down if it's one or two of you doing city errands and the odd airport trip. You'll spend the week parking a five-metre SUV and feeding a thirsty engine for a job a mid-size crossover or a sedan does for far less. The Patrol is a lot of car, and it's worth every metre when the trip calls for it. Rent it for the group and the load, not for the badge.
