The new V6 gets this two-and-a-half-tonne SUV to 100 km/h in about 6.7 seconds, quicker than the V8 it replaced, and it does the job with less fuss: the turbos are already working by the time you need the power, so overtaking on the highway is a squeeze of the pedal rather than a kickdown and a wait.

Underneath, the changes are less obvious but just as real. It's still a body-on-frame 4x4 with a low-range transfer case and terrain modes for sand, rock, mud and snow, so the off-road hardware carries over rather than getting simplified for comfort. Physically the new Patrol sits close to the old one's footprint, 5,205 mm long and 2,030 mm wide, so if you've parked a Patrol before, nothing about that changes.
