Book a Nissan Patrol 2025 in Dubai and we bring it to your hotel, villa or terminal, usually inside one to two hours of your call. You only need to be 21 to take the keys, which is younger than most desks in this class allow, so this big Patrol is open to more drivers than you'd expect. What that access buys you in 2025 is a genuinely different car from the one people remember. Nissan has retired the old V8 and dropped in a twin-turbo V6, and that swap changes how the whole thing drives. This page is about whether that drive earns its place in your week here.
First, clear up the numbers. Any listing showing 4.8 litres and 280 hp is describing the old Super Safari, not this car. The 2025 Patrol runs a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 with 425 hp and 700 Nm through a nine-speed automatic. On the road the change from the old V8 shows up as low-down muscle. The turbos are already working by the time you've merged onto Sheikh Zayed Road, so a gap in traffic closes with a squeeze of the pedal instead of a downshift and a pause. It gets this two-and-a-half-tonne SUV to 100 km/h in about 6.7 seconds, which is quick enough that overtaking a truck on the E11 never feels like a project.
The other half of the story is refinement. The old V8 had character but it made a noise about it. This V6 is quieter at a cruise and smoother when you're just trickling through Downtown traffic, so a long drive tires you less. It stays a body-on-frame four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case underneath, so the capability is real. Most renters will feel that in the way it shrugs off a sandy verge or a rough site track, not in full dune driving, which is a skill and not a button.

The engine is the easy part. The size is what you actually manage day to day. At 5.2 metres long and over two metres wide, the Patrol is happiest moving and least happy parked. Tight multi-storey bays and the spiral ramps under Marina towers need the cameras and a bit of patience, and a mid-block U-turn takes a wider sweep than you're used to. Once you accept that rhythm it's easy to place, and the high seating means you see the road well ahead of everyone around you. The 273 mm of ground clearance turns speed bumps and steep mall ramps into non-events, so nothing scrapes.
Running it costs more than a smaller SUV, and it's worth going in clear-eyed. Nissan quotes 9.9 L/100km combined, but a week of Dubai stop-start traffic and cold-start AC will push real use higher. The 97-litre tank still gives a big touring range, so you won't be at the pump constantly, though each fill is a proper bill. You cover Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental, and in a car this comfortable to drive far, the kilometres stack up before you notice.
Heat is the question every renter asks, and a cabin this large lives or dies on it. Leave the Patrol in an open July car park for a few hours and the first minute back inside is rough, as it is in anything here. What matters is how fast it recovers, and this one pulls down quickly because the system is sized for the volume it has to cool. Vents run strong front and rear, so the third row isn't left sweating while the front seats get all the cold air. That balance is the difference between a family arriving comfortable and a back seat full of complaints on the school run.
Rent the 2025 Patrol if you need what it does. Seven or eight seats with a third row that takes real adults, room for a full family's luggage on an airport run, and the presence and calm of sitting above the traffic all week. The new V6 makes it a nicer thing to drive than the V8 ever was, and being able to rent from 21 puts it within reach of younger drivers who'd normally be told to size down. Nothing in this class covers people and terrain better in one car.
Skip it if it's one or two of you doing city errands and the odd airport run. You'll spend the week parking a very large SUV and fuelling it for a job a mid-size crossover or a sedan does cheaper and with far less fuss in a tight bay. One more thing to plan for: unlike our smaller cars, a Patrol typically takes a refundable deposit, so this isn't the no-deposit option. Your allowance is 250 km a day, then AED 0.5 for each extra kilometre, and you need to be 21 to drive it. Rent it for the space and the capability, not for the badge alone.
