White is the colour most people already picture when someone says Nissan Patrol, and on the 2025 car it still looks exactly the way it should: the same nose, the same slab-sided bulk, the same badge sitting where it always has. What has actually changed sits under the bonnet, not on the paint chart. This is the all-new Y63 generation, and Nissan retired the long-serving naturally aspirated V8 for a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6. The V6 is new. The badge and the footprint are not

The 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 makes 425 hp and 700 Nm, run through a nine-speed automatic to all four wheels, with a genuine low-range transfer case and terrain modes for sand, rock and mud. Nissan quotes 0-100 km/h in about 6.7 seconds, quick for something this size, and the turbos fill in the low-end shove the old V8 never quite had off the line. It also settles down faster at a cruise, since two smaller turbos working under boost are quieter at speed than a big naturally aspirated eight ever was. If you spot a Patrol listing quoting a 4.8-litre engine and 280 hp, that figure belongs to the outgoing Super Safari, not this generation. Worth ruling out before you compare quotes elsewhere.

None of that hardware is for show. Low range and a locking centre diff mean this Patrol can leave the tarmac properly, and 273 mm of ground clearance shrugs off the speed bumps and steep mall ramps that make lower cars wince. That matters even on a trip that never touches sand, because Dubai's own roads throw up enough of both.

Three rows and a boot that hasn't shrunk

Seating runs to seven with captain's chairs in the middle row, or eight where that row is a bench, and the third row is built for adults on a real trip rather than kids on a school run. Drop that row and the load area behind it swallows a family's worth of hard luggage without anyone having to strap a case to the roof. Leave all three rows up for a full house and the boot behind them is still usable for the weekly shop or a stack of soft bags, which is more than a lot of seven-seaters manage once every seat is filled. It just isn't the place for hard cases on top of a full cabin. Plan for one or the other.

The size cuts both ways once you're parking it. At just over five metres long and two metres wide, this Patrol wants room, and some of the older multi-storey car parks around the Marina and Downtown weren't built with a footprint like this in mind. Give yourself an extra minute reversing into a tight bay and lean on the cameras rather than the mirrors.

The fuel bill, Salik and why a white cabin cools easier

Run the numbers on the tank before you assume this is an expensive week. At 9.9 L/100km combined and a 97-litre tank, you're looking at roughly 950 to 980 km of range between fill-ups, comfortably enough for a week of city driving with a day trip or two mixed in. The rental policy allows 250 km a day, and anything past that costs AED 0.5 per extra kilometre, a modest rate as these things go. Stick to school runs, errands and one outing to Hatta or the coast and you'll rarely touch the overage. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are on the renter, standard practice across the fleet.

On heat, the white paint is doing you a real favour before the air conditioning even switches on. A dark cabin left in a July car park soaks up far more heat through the glass and bodywork than a white one does, so you're starting from a lower baseline when you climb back in. The system still needs a minute or so to pull a cabin this size down properly, and the vents are strong enough front and rear that third-row passengers aren't left waiting on whatever drifts back from the front.

Who the new Patrol suits, and who's renting more truck than they need

Book this one if you need the seats, the luggage room or genuine 4x4 capability, particularly if Hatta or a proper desert run is actually on the itinerary. The new V6 is a meaningfully better engine to live with than the V8 it replaced, and the AED 0.5 per-kilometre overage rate is gentle enough that you don't need to watch the odometer all week. The one honest caveat is the minimum age: this car asks for 25, higher than several other Patrols on the fleet that open the keys at 21, so younger renters should check that before falling for the white paint.

Skip it if it's one or two of you doing city errands with no long trips on the calendar. The size and the fuel bill are wasted on that job, and a smaller SUV will be easier to park and cheaper to run. This Patrol earns its keep when the whole group, and the whole boot, actually needs it.
