Nissan Patrol 2024 - start from 449 AED / day

Most people who rent the Nissan Patrol 2024 in Dubai use it for school runs, airport pickups and a family week of malls and beaches, and it does that job while barely breathing. The car belongs somewhere else, though. This is a full-size, low-range, body-on-frame 4x4 built for sand and long empty highway, and it is one of the very few things on a Dubai rental fleet you can legitimately point at a dune. We deliver it to your door in one to two hours, and we hire it out from age 18 when most desks in the city want 21. What follows is about whether you actually need this much car.

What a 2024 Patrol is, and which engine you get

Worth settling first, because the name covers two different vehicles. The 2024 Patrol sold across the GCC is the seven and eight seat wagon, and it came with either a 4.0 litre V6 making 275 hp and 394 Nm, or a 5.6 litre V8 making 400 hp and 560 Nm. Both run a seven speed automatic and full time four wheel drive with a proper low range transfer case. The 4.8 litre straight six that people associate with the Patrol name belongs to the older Super Safari, a short three door car that is a completely different proposition and not what a seven seat fleet booking refers to. If the engine matters to you, ask us before delivery and we will tell you which one is coming.

The practical difference is smaller than the numbers suggest. The V6 is unhurried rather than slow and will do everything a holiday asks of it. The V8 makes overtaking on the E11 effortless, pulls harder in soft sand, and drinks accordingly. The off-road hardware is identical either way.

Seven seats and what actually fits behind them

The third row here is usable by adults, which separates the Patrol from most seven seaters where row three is a legal formality for children on short trips. Two grown-ups will sit back there from Dubai to Abu Dhabi without complaining much.

Luggage is the honest catch. With all three rows up you get 550 litres, which sounds generous and is really about three or four cabin bags and a couple of soft holdalls. Seven people arriving at Terminal 3 with a large case each will not fit, and no amount of clever packing changes that. Fold the third row and the picture flips completely, giving a family of five a flat load bay big enough for a week of cases, a cooler and beach kit. So plan by row count: five travelling is luxurious, seven travelling means duffels rather than hard shells.

The desert question, answered properly

This is the part other rental pages either skip or exaggerate. The Patrol has 273 mm of ground clearance, full time four wheel drive, a low range transfer case and long suspension travel. On a graded track to Hatta, on a wadi road, or on the flat sabkha out past the highway, it is genuinely comfortable and needs no special skill from you.

Dunes are a different sport. The car is capable and the driver usually is not, and a stuck two and a half tonne 4x4 in soft sand at midday is a serious situation rather than an inconvenience. If you are going in, deflate the tyres to roughly 15 psi, carry a compressor to reinflate before you touch tarmac again, bring a recovery strap and a shovel, and never go alone. A second vehicle is the actual safety equipment. If you have not driven sand before, book a guided trip and take the Patrol to the meeting point instead of learning on your own.

Most Patrol rentals never leave asphalt. That is fine, but it means paying for capability you will not use.

Living with it on tarmac, heat and all

It is over five metres long and just under two metres wide, so multi-storey bays and older Marina side streets take patience and a few extra shuffles. Cameras and sensors help, the turning circle does not. The upside is that speed bumps, steep mall ramps and flooded underpasses in a January downpour are all irrelevant to you.

Heat management is one of the car's real strengths. The cabin is enormous, so a Patrol parked in July sun takes a minute or two longer than a hatchback to get comfortable, but dedicated vents feed the second and third rows, so the back does not bake while the front gets cold. Open the doors for thirty seconds to dump the trapped heat before you start, then let it pull down while you load up.

On fuel, be realistic. Claimed economy is 8.5 km/L for the V6 and 6.9 km/L for the V8, and Dubai stop-start traffic will be worse than both. The 140 litre tank saves you, since even at real-world consumption you are getting close to 800 km between fills. One fill covers most of a normal week, but it is a large single bill when it comes.

Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, and child seats are required for under-fours. Mileage runs to 300 km a day and AED 0.5 per kilometre beyond that, which is plenty for city use and worth counting before an Abu Dhabi or Hatta round trip.

Who should book it

Rent the Patrol 2024 if you have six or seven people to move, if your week includes real desert driving with the right kit and a second car, or if you want the safest-feeling thing on the highway for a long family drive. On that brief it is excellent and nothing in the class does the job more comfortably.

Skip it if you are two or three adults staying inside the city. You will spend the week parking a very large vehicle and paying for fuel and capability you never touch, and a mid-size SUV or a full-size sedan will be quicker, cheaper and far less work in a mall car park. The Patrol earns its keep when it is full or when the tarmac ends. Anything else is a badge you are renting.
