Nissan Patrol 2022 - start from 551 AED / day

A soft-road crossover stops at the gate to a proper desert track. The Nissan Patrol 2022 in white keeps going, and that gap is the real reason to book this SUV rental in Dubai instead of something with a rugged badge and none of the hardware behind it. Under the size sits a genuine body-on-frame 4x4 with a low-range transfer case, the part a crossover simply doesn't have, built to drop off a graded track and hold a line in soft sand instead of spinning a wheel and stopping. We deliver it to your door within one to two hours of booking. What this page settles is whether your week actually calls for that hardware, or whether a smaller car does the same job for less.

Low range and the V8: what actually gets you through the sand

This is the Y62-generation Patrol, the older body-on-frame wagon built around a 5.6-litre petrol V8, not the twin-turbo Patrol that replaced it a few years later. Peak output is 400 hp at 5,800 rpm and 560 Nm at 4,000 rpm, sent through a seven-speed automatic to an all-mode 4WD system with a proper low-range transfer case bolted on top. Low range is the part that matters once the asphalt runs out. It multiplies torque at low speed, which is what lets the Patrol crawl down a steep dune face or claw back up a soft one without the engine straining or a wheel spinning uselessly in the sand. On the road that same drivetrain barely notices its own size. It reaches 100 km/h in around 6.6 seconds and holds close to 210 km/h if the road ever allows it, and on Sheikh Zayed Road overtaking a slow truck takes a light push of the pedal rather than a downshift and a wait.

None of that makes dune driving something you can skip learning. Air the tyres down before you leave the tarmac, carry recovery gear, and go out with someone who already knows the track. A share of 2022 Patrols in the region carry a smaller 4.0-litre V6 instead of this V8, a decent engine on its own but noticeably quieter, without the pull described here. If the V8 is the reason you're picking this car, ask us to confirm the engine on your specific unit before you commit.

Seven seats, and where the luggage actually goes

Seven seats here means the third row can actually take adults on a real drive, not just children folded in for the school run. The middle row slides and tips forward on its own, so climbing back doesn't turn into a small production every time someone needs a seat further back. Two adults, three kids and a day out to the mall or the desert all fit without anyone negotiating for legroom.

The boot is the part worth planning around rather than assuming. With all seven seats up, the space behind the last row takes a couple of soft bags and a cooler box, not a stack of hard suitcases for a full car. Fold one side of the third row down and a proper load bay opens up next to it, enough for four or five large cases while five or six people still travel. Drop the whole row flat and it takes a big group's gear for a week. The day this catches people out is the one where every seat is filled and every case is packed at the same time, and for most bookings that simply doesn't happen.

What a desert day costs in fuel, and why white pays back after

A 5.6-litre V8 in a two-and-a-half-tonne SUV was never built to sip fuel, and the combined figure of around 14 L/100km undersells what you'll actually burn. Ordinary Dubai traffic with the AC on full already pushes real consumption toward 16 or 17, and a day spent working the engine in low range through soft sand runs it higher still. The 140-litre tank is what makes that manageable. Out past the last fuel station on a desert track, that range matters more than the per-litre number ever will, and it buys several ordinary days between fills even with a heavy right foot.

Mileage is the other number to plan around. The daily allowance on this Patrol is 250 km, then AED 0.5 for every kilometre past it. City errands, school runs and an airport pickup sit comfortably inside that, but a full day out to a desert track and back can close the gap faster than expected once you add the drive there, the driving on the sand itself, and the drive home. Tally the route before you leave rather than at drop-off. You'll need to be 25 to take the keys. Salik tolls and any RTA fines pass to you as the renter, the same as on every car we hand over.

This fleet's Patrol is white, which genuinely helps after a day like that. A pale body sheds far more solar load than a dark one, so after hours parked at a trailhead in full sun, the roof and bonnet stay noticeably cooler to the touch, and the compressor isn't starting from as deep a hole once you climb back in. That advantage stops at the windscreen, though. A cabin this size still bakes through the glass regardless of paint, so give the front vents a couple of minutes before it's properly comfortable, and let the rear vents do their job so the third row isn't stuck with warm air the front seats already used.

Book the Patrol for the dunes, size down for pure city driving

Book this Patrol if your trip genuinely uses what sits underneath it: a run out to the sand, a Hatta weekend, seven seats and gear for a group who wants one vehicle to do the whole thing. The low-range gearing and the 275 mm of clearance aren't decoration on this car, and the 140-litre tank is exactly what you want when the nearest fuel station is an hour behind you.

Size down if it's one or two of you handling city errands with the odd airport run and no plan to leave the tarmac. You'll be parking a 5.14-metre SUV in bays built for something smaller and feeding a thirsty V8 for a job a mid-size crossover does on less fuel. The Patrol earns its size and its thirst back on the day the trip needs a real 4x4. On any other day, it's more truck than the errand calls for.
