Nissan Patrol 2022 - start from 542 AED / day

If your week in Dubai includes a run out to the dunes, the Nissan Patrol 2022 is the rental that handles the soft sand and the school run with the same shrug. We deliver it to your door in Dubai within 1 to 2 hours, and you can pay on the day by card, cash, or even Apple Pay. This is the full-size Y62 Patrol with the 5.6-litre V8, permanent four-wheel drive, and the kind of ground clearance that makes a Hatta track or a desert camp a non-event. Our argument here is straightforward: if you actually need the off-road ability and the eight seats, nothing in the price bracket does both as well. If you don't, this is a lot of car to park.

What the V8 and the 4x4 actually buy you

The 2022 Patrol runs a 5.6-litre V8 making 400 hp, sent through a seven-speed automatic to all four wheels full time. On Sheikh Zayed Road that means you overtake by thinking about it, not planning for it. The car cruises at 120 without breathing hard, and there's enough in reserve that a fully loaded cabin and a roof box don't blunt it.

Off the tarmac is where it earns the badge. With 283 mm of ground clearance and permanent 4x4, it climbs the Big Red type dunes that stop softer crossovers, and the long-travel suspension soaks up corrugated desert tracks. You still need to drop tyre pressures and know what you're doing in sand, but the hardware is there. For a Hatta day trip or a weekend desert camp with the family, this is the right tool.

Seats, luggage, and the airport run

The cabin is the other reason people rent this car. Eight seats means three rows, and the middle row is genuinely adult-sized rather than a token bench. Six adults travel in comfort, and a seventh and eighth fit for shorter hops. Fold the third row and you free up a cavernous load bay, up to 3170 litres, which swallows a family's worth of luggage and still leaves room.

With all three rows up the boot drops to 550 litres, enough for a few soft bags or a grocery run, but not full-size suitcases for eight. For an airport collection from DXB or DWC with a big group, the honest move is to put four or five people in and lay the back row flat for the cases. Try to seat eight and carry eight suitcases and you'll be playing luggage Tetris.

Parking a car this size in Dubai

At 5.14 metres long and just under 2 metres wide, the Patrol is a big thing to thread through a multi-storey car park. Tight Marina bays and older mall parking are where you'll feel it, and some narrow ramps want a careful line. The high seating position and the cameras help, but there's no pretending it tucks away like a mid-size SUV. If most of your week is downtown errands and you never leave the asphalt, this is more car than the job needs.

Out on the open road and at the airport it's a different story. The size that's awkward in a parking structure becomes calm and planted at speed, and the clearance shrugs off the speed bumps and steep mall ramps that scrape lower cars.

Fuel, and what it costs to run for a week

A V8 this size is thirsty, and we'd rather you know that going in. Expect somewhere around 14 to 16 litres per 100 km in mixed driving, more if you spend a lot of time crawling in traffic with the AC at full tilt. The upside is the 140-litre tank, which is large enough that even heavy use stretches across several days, so you're not at the pump every morning. Fuel here is cheap by global standards, but on this engine the bill is real, and a desert trip in low range will empty it faster than you'd expect.

Heat, Salik, and the rules that fall to you

Dubai summers sit in the mid-40s, and a cabin this big takes a moment to cool after it's baked in a car park. The Patrol's climate system is strong, with vents feeding all three rows so the kids in the back aren't left sweating, but give it a couple of minutes with the doors shut before everyone piles in. Salik tolls are billed to you as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during the rental are yours. Child seats are required for under-fours, and we can fit one on request.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Patrol 2022 if you've got a big group, real luggage, or a desert plan, or all three. It's the full-size 4x4 that does the highway, the dunes, and the airport run without complaint, and the V8 never feels strained. For a family week that mixes mall days with a Hatta trip, this is the car.

Skip it if your week is purely city errands and tight parking, where its size works against you and the fuel bill stings for nothing. And if you want the Patrol badge but not the third row or the off-road duty, a mid-size SUV will be cheaper to run and far easier to park. Match the car to the trip and this one rarely disappoints.
