We hand over the Nissan Altima 2024 across Dubai with 250 km a day built into the rental, which is the figure that matters most if your week involves airport runs, a daily commute, or a weekend out to the east coast. This is a roomy midsize sedan with a back seat adults actually fit in and a boot that swallows real luggage. The argument of this page is simple: the Altima is the comfortable, easy-going family sedan, strong on space and highway calm, less interested in being sharp. If that trade suits you, it's one of the better value picks in its size.
Picture two adults up front, two kids behind, and a week of school runs, mall trips, and a Friday drive somewhere. The Altima handles that without anyone complaining about legroom, and the rear bench is genuinely wide enough for three on shorter hops. It's also a comfortable car to sit in for an hour on Sheikh Zayed Road, which counts when half your trips are long straight stretches between communities.
What it isn't is a driver's car. The steering is light and the body leans a little when you push through a fast corner, so if you want something that feels tight and eager, a sharper compact sedan will please you more. The Altima trades that edge for a soft, settled ride, and most renters making airport and errand runs will take the comfort.

The 2.5-litre four makes 188 hp, which is plenty for a sedan this size. Around town it's quiet and unbothered, and on the highway it has enough in reserve to overtake a slow lorry on the E11 without drama. Top speed sits at 220 km/h, well past anything legal here, so the car never feels short of pace.
The gearbox is a CVT, and that's the honest caveat. Floor it to merge and the revs climb and hold while the car gathers speed, which some drivers find a bit droning. In normal driving it's smooth and you forget it's there. If a crisp-shifting automatic is something you care about, you'll notice the difference. For relaxed cruising, which is what most of these rentals are, the CVT does its job and helps the economy.
On fuel, expect somewhere around 15 km per litre in mixed driving, more on a steady highway run, less if you sit in Marina traffic with the AC on full. The 61-litre tank gives you close to 900 km between fills under good conditions, so a normal week of Dubai driving means one fuel stop, maybe none if you stay local.
The trunk is one of the Altima's strong points. It takes two large suitcases plus a couple of cabin bags without a fight, so a family of four landing at DXB with a week's luggage will get it all in. If you're a group of four adults each with a big case, it gets tight, and at that point an SUV with a taller load area makes more sense. For the typical couple or small family doing a DXB or DWC pickup, the boot is not the thing that holds you back.
The wide rear doors and flat floor also make fitting a child seat straightforward, which matters since under-fours legally need one in Dubai.
Summer here pushes into the high 40s, and a car left in an open lot turns into an oven. The Altima's AC pulls a parked cabin down to comfortable in a few minutes of driving, and it holds it well once there. There are rear vents too, so kids in the back aren't left baking while the front seats get all the cold air. Park in shade when you can and it's a non-issue.
At 4.9 metres long it's a proper midsize sedan, so tight multi-storey bays and a busy Marina car park need a bit more care than a compact would. Nothing difficult, but it's not a city runabout you fling into any gap. The low 127 mm clearance also means you slow right down for the steeper mall ramps and aggressive speed bumps, since it's a car built for smooth roads, not rough ground.
A reminder on the running costs that fall to you: Salik tolls are billed to the renter, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you as well. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat.
Rent the Altima if you want space, comfort, and a calm highway car for a family or a longer stay, and you don't mind a sedan that's soft rather than sporty. Two adults and two kids with airport luggage is its sweet spot, and so is anyone doing regular runs up and down Sheikh Zayed Road. Size down to a compact sedan if it's just you or a couple staying central, where the smaller car parks easier and rents cheaper. Size up to an SUV if you're four adults with four big cases or you want any ground clearance for rougher trips. For the family in the middle, the Altima is the sensible, roomy, good-value choice.
