Nissan Altima 2022 - start from 194 AED / day

Three adults in the back, full cases in the boot, and a calm cabin for the run to DXB: that's the brief the Nissan Altima 2022 was built for, and we hand it over across Dubai to renters from 18, where most desks make you wait until 21. This is the 2.5-litre midsize sedan on an older-year rate, so you're paying for room and comfort rather than badge or pace. Our take: if your week revolves around carrying people and luggage in air-conditioned peace, the Altima is the sensible book. If it's one or two of you nipping around the city, you're renting more car than the job needs, and we'll say so below.

Room in the back, and who it really suits

Start with the space, because that's the reason to choose this over a compact. At 4.9 metres long the Altima is a genuine midsize, and that length lands in the cabin rather than the styling. Two adults stretch out up front, and the rear bench takes three across for school runs and shorter hops, or two adults in real comfort on a longer drive. Nobody folds their knees, and a child seat fits without shoving the front passenger forward.

That makes it a family car first. For a couple doing dinners and errands, the back seat sits empty all week, which is fine, but it's space you're paying for.

The boot and your airport luggage

The boot is where the Altima quietly beats the compact sedans renters often default to. It's deep and squarely cut, so two large hard cases plus a couple of cabin bags drop in without a game of Tetris. A family of four collecting a week's luggage from DXB or DWC loads up and shuts the lid, no negotiation. Fold the rear seats and you get a long flat floor for golf clubs or a flat-pack from the mall.

If your run is two people and carry-on, that capacity goes unused and a compact saves a little. For the full family pickup, the size is the whole point.

Fuel, and how rarely you'll fill it

The 2.5-litre four is easy on fuel for a car this size. In Dubai stop-and-go you'll see somewhere around 11 to 13 km/L, and that climbs once you settle into a highway cruise. On the 61.3-litre tank, a careful week of city driving and a couple of airport runs means filling up once, maybe twice if you're commuting between the emirates daily. The point of an older-year sedan is the lower rate, and a thirsty engine would undo that. This one doesn't, so the value holds at the pump.

Heat, AC and the rules that fall to you

A black sedan baking in a July car park turns into an oven within minutes, so the AC's real job is recovery. The Altima's system handles it. The front vents pull the cabin down to comfortable inside a few minutes of driving, and there are rear vents, which matters when kids are sweating in the back on a 45-degree afternoon. It's a proper midsize climate setup, not a token one.

A few standing rules apply to any rental here. Salik tolls are billed to you at each gantry, RTA fines during the hire pass to you, and belts are mandatory in every seat. A child under four needs a child seat, which we can fit on request.

Parking and the one compromise

The length that gives you the cabin is also the only thing the Altima asks of you in town. In a tight Marina multi-storey or a packed mall bay it's a longer body to place, and the U-turn circle is wider than a compact's. Light steering and rear sensors take the sting out of the squeeze, but if your week is mostly narrow community parking, a smaller sedan is genuinely easier. The 137 mm of clearance means you take steep ramps and high speed bumps gently, since this is a road car with no rough-ground pretensions. On the open E11 none of that registers; it cruises quiet and stable, with enough in reserve to overtake, even if the CVT drones a touch under a hard pull.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Altima 2022 if you're carrying a family and their bags and you want comfort and a low fuel bill at a value older-year rate. For airport runs, longer drives, and anyone who'd rather arrive relaxed than driven hard, it's an easy car to recommend.

Size down to a compact sedan if it's just one or two of you on short city errands, since you'll pay less and park easier without missing the room. Size up to an SUV if you need boot height for buggies and bulky gear, or any clearance for soft sand, because at 137 mm the Altima is tarmac-only. For the family that wants space and a calm week without paying for pace, it's hard to argue with.
