What you get with the 2024 is a car with fewer summers of Dubai heat behind it, less wear on the seats and pedals, and one less thing to think about on a week-long booking. The 2024 changes nothing under the hood

Mitsubishi carried the Attrage into 2024 without touching the mechanical layout, and that is worth saying plainly rather than dressing it up. It is still a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, rated around 78 hp and 100 Nm, sent through a CVT automatic to the front wheels. Around town at 60 to 80 km/h it feels adequately quick and never strained. Out on Sheikh Zayed Road it settles into 100 to 120 km/h without fuss when it is you and one passenger. Load it with four adults and their bags and ask for a fast overtake, and the three-cylinder gets vocal before the CVT lets the car actually gather speed. Plan the move a beat earlier than you would in a bigger sedan and it never feels unsafe, just unhurried. Expect somewhere around 14 seconds to 100 km/h, which tells you this is a car for getting around, not for making a point on the highway.

The boot pulls its weight, the back seat has limits

At 450 litres the boot is the one place this small sedan outperforms its size, swallowing more than several cars that look roomier from the outside. Two large suitcases and a soft bag load in without repacking on the kerb, which is enough for an airport run or a family stocking up for the week. The cabin is more honest about the car's budget. Two adults sit fine up front. In the back, two manage a short hop across town without complaint, but a tall passenger behind a tall driver will feel the wheelbase running out on anything longer, and three across the rear bench is really a job for children rather than adults. The narrow 1,670 mm body pays that back at every parking bay, though. It slots into a tight Marina tower slot or an undersized mall spot with room left to open the doors, and 170 mm of ground clearance shrugs off speed bumps and basement ramps without a scrape. It is a front-wheel-drive city sedan, so keep it on tarmac. Sand and soft shoulders are a job for something else on the lot.

The running costs, and the heat once you're back inside

Mitsubishi quotes close to 20 km per litre, which is a lab-test best case you will not see with the AC running against Dubai heat. Real city driving lands nearer 14 to 15 km/L, and the 42-litre tank still stretches to roughly 600 km, which for most renters means one fill across a full week of errands and commuting. The booking includes 250 km a day, and anything past that is billed at AED 0.5 per extra kilometre, a fair allowance unless most of your days are long highway runs out of the city. Drivers need to be 25 or over to take the keys, a slightly higher bar than some of the smaller economy cars on this lot. Salik tolls and any RTA fine picked up during the rental pass to you as the renter, same as with any car here.

Dark grey holds a bit more heat than a white or silver car left in the same open car park, so expect the first minute back inside on a July afternoon to sting a little more than it would in a lighter-coloured Attrage. The small cabin works in your favour once the AC is running, though, since there is less air for the front vents to pull down to a comfortable temperature. Keep your expectations set at the price: this is single-zone manual air conditioning with no rear vents, standard for the class, so a full back seat on a hot afternoon depends on air reaching it from the front rather than its own supply.

Where this car fits, and where it doesn't

Book the Attrage 2024 if you are driving solo or two-up and want the cheapest sensible automatic sedan for a Dubai week or longer, and you would rather take the newest one on the lot than an older car with more Dubai summers behind it. City errands, the commute, an airport pickup with a normal case load, all of it suits the car well, and the fuel savings hold up against almost anything else with a gearbox here. Size up if four adults are travelling together with full luggage, since the back seat and the modest engine both feel that load on anything longer than a short hop, or if your week is mostly highway driving with fast overtakes in mind. For everything else, easy city driving on an allowance that does not punish the odd longer day, the Attrage earns its place as one of the cheapest automatics we rent, and being the newest one in the fleet is a genuine reason to pick this year over the last three.
