Few cars cost less to keep moving around Dubai than the Mitsubishi Attrage 2023, and that's the whole reason to rent one. We deliver it to your door with 250 km a day already included, so a week of school runs, mall trips and the odd airport drop rarely pushes you near the limit. This is a frugal small sedan with a surprisingly big boot, the sort of car you book when running cost matters more than badge or pace. If you want more punch on Sheikh Zayed Road or a plusher cabin for four adults, you'll want to step up to something like a Honda City. For everything else around town, the Attrage just quietly gets on with it.
The Attrage is an economy sedan with five seats, a 1.2-litre petrol engine driving the front wheels through an automatic gearbox. Power sits at 80 hp, which tells you most of what you need to know: this is a car built for sipping fuel and being easy, not for winning traffic-light races. Around Dubai's 60 to 80 km/h limits it feels perfectly fine. The lightness that makes it cheap to run also makes it easy to place in a tight bay or thread through Deira's older streets.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.2-litre petrol |
| Transmission | Automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Power | 80 hp |
| Fuel economy | up to 20 km/l (claimed) |
| Fuel tank | 42 litres |
| Range | around 700 km on a tank |
| Boot | 450 litres |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4245 x 1670 x 1515 mm |
| Ground clearance | 170 mm |
| Top speed | 170 km/h |
This is where the Attrage earns its keep. Mitsubishi quotes up to 20 km per litre, and the 42-litre tank gives a claimed range close to 700 km. Be realistic, though. Dubai driving rarely hits the brochure figure. With the AC fighting 45-degree heat and plenty of stop-start traffic, expect something nearer 16 to 18 km per litre in the real world. Even then, you're filling a small tank with cheap petrol, so a full week of normal city use often means one fill, maybe two if you're commuting out to Jebel Ali or Abu Dhabi and back. For anyone watching the budget, that's the single best thing about this car.
The 450-litre boot is genuinely large for an economy sedan, and it's the Attrage's quiet advantage over hatchbacks in the same price band. Two large suitcases plus a couple of cabin bags slot in without a fight, which covers most DXB or DWC airport runs for a couple or a small family. The opening is a touch narrow, so a single very bulky case can be awkward, but soft bags swallow easily. If you're collecting four adults with four full-size cases, that's where it gets tight and a bigger sedan makes more sense.
The AC is honest for the class. With a small cabin to cool, it pulls a parked car down from oven temperatures reasonably quickly once you're moving, though leaving it in direct sun all afternoon in July still means a hot first few minutes. Vents up front do the work; there are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers feel it a beat later. For two people it's a non-issue.
Parking is one of the Attrage's strengths. At 4.25 metres it's short enough for Marina towers and mall multi-storeys, the turning circle is tight, and 170 mm of clearance clears speed bumps and ramps without the scrape that lower cars suffer. On the practical side, Salik tolls and any RTA fines pass to you as the renter, and seat belts are required in every seat, so factor the gates on your usual route into the running cost.
The Attrage will sit at 120 on the E11 all day, and that's the part people get wrong about small sedans. It cruises comfortably at Dubai's highway limits. What it doesn't love is the overtake at speed: with 80 hp pushing through an automatic, a quick move from 100 to 130 takes planning rather than a stab of the throttle. On a long, fast run to Abu Dhabi it's competent but never eager. For daily city use and airport hops it's well judged. For drivers who spend most of their week flat out on Sheikh Zayed Road wanting instant response, it'll feel underpowered.
Rent the Attrage if your week is mostly city driving and you want the lowest possible fuel and rental outlay with a real boot behind it. Couples, solo commuters and small families on a budget are exactly who it suits, and the doorstep delivery plus 250 km a day makes it painless to live with. Step up to a Honda City or a similar mid-size sedan if you regularly carry four adults with luggage, spend most of your time on the highway, or simply want more shove and a richer cabin. For frugal, fuss-free Dubai motoring, though, the Attrage is one of the smartest cheap rentals on the desk.
