Here's the number that surprises people about the Mitsubishi Attrage 2021: a 450-litre boot in one of the cheapest sedans we rent in Dubai. For a small economy four-door, that's a properly useful load space, bigger than plenty of cars a class above. We deliver it to your door, usually within a couple of hours, with 250 km a day included. Our take is simple: this is the budget commuter that still handles a light airport run, ideal for a solo driver or a couple who want the lowest running cost without giving up a real boot. What it isn't is quick or plush, and we'll be honest about that.
Start with the strength. At 450 litres the Attrage swallows two large suitcases plus a couple of cabin bags without a fight, which makes it a sensible DXB or DWC pickup for a couple or a small family travelling light. That's the part the spec sheet undersells, because the car looks small from outside and isn't, where it counts. Four adults with four big hard cases is the point where it gets tight and your cue to size up. But for a normal amount of luggage on an airport run, it does the job and barely sips fuel getting there.
Rear seat room is fine for two adults on a short hop and snug for three across. Kids are no trouble. If you regularly carry four grown adults on longer trips, this isn't your car.
The Attrage is a value commuter, plainly. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder makes 76 hp through a CVT automatic, enough to keep up with traffic and little more. It's light, front-wheel drive, and tuned for economy over punch. On Sheikh Zayed Road it'll sit at 120 all day, but plan your overtakes, because dropping into the throttle to pass a truck gives the little engine a beat to gather itself. Above 100 it gets vocal and you feel it working.
Inside, set expectations. Cloth seats, hard plastics, a basic screen and physical AC dials. Nobody rents an Attrage for the cabin. For a solo commuter or a couple it's perfectly comfortable, and the point of the car is the bill at the end of the week.
| Spec | Figure |
|---|---|
| Class / body | Economy sedan, 4-door |
| Seats | 5 |
| Engine | 1.2L 3-cylinder MIVEC petrol |
| Power | 76 hp |
| Transmission | CVT automatic |
| Drivetrain | Front-wheel drive |
| Boot | 450 litres |
| Fuel economy | approx. 17 km/L in real Dubai use |
| Fuel tank | 42 litres |
| Range | roughly 600 to 700 km per tank |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,305 x 1,670 x 1,515 mm |
| Ground clearance | 170 mm |
| Colours | White, silver, grey, black, red, blue and others |
This is the Attrage's other strong argument. Mitsubishi quotes high-teens kilometres per litre, and while Dubai stop-and-go with the AC flat out won't hit the brochure figure, mid-to-high teens is normal. Call it 17 km/L in honest mixed driving. With a 42-litre tank, a careful commuter gets well past 600 km between fills, and even a heavy week of city errands keeps you out of the station longer than almost anything at this price. For a daily driver, two fills a fortnight is realistic. That frugality is the whole reason to choose this over a bigger sedan.
Small footprint, light steering and a tidy turning circle make the Attrage easy in Dubai. Tight multi-storey bays, Marina ramps, mall car parks and the U-turns on the main roads are all painless. At 170 mm the clearance handles the speed bumps and ramps you meet daily without scraping.
The heat is the honest caveat. The AC cools a small cabin reasonably once you're moving, but after the car has baked in a 45-degree car park, give it a few minutes with the fan up before it's truly comfortable. There are front vents only, no rear outlets, so back-seat passengers wait a little longer for the cold air. Park in shade where you can and it's a non-issue.
Two quick ones. Salik tolls are on you, the renter, so factor in the gates you cross on your commute, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you too, so mind the cameras on the E11. Seat belts are mandatory front and back, and a child under four needs a proper child seat. None of it is unusual, but it catches first-time visitors out.
Rent the Attrage 2021 if you want the cheapest sensible automatic in Dubai with a boot that genuinely earns its keep, and your driving is commuting, errands and the occasional light airport run. As a solo driver or a couple watching the budget, you'll struggle to find anything that costs less to run, parks more easily, or carries more luggage for the money.
Step up if you want more. Carrying four adults regularly, doing long fast highway stretches where stronger overtaking matters, or simply wanting a cabin that feels less basic, you'll be better served by a Honda City or similar. It's roomier, quieter and better on the motorway, and worth the difference for those drivers. But if the honest answer is cheap, reliable wheels with a real boot, the Attrage makes the case on its own.
