What's under the bonnet, and how it feels

Worth knowing before you book: this convertible doesn't run the same engine as the Cooper hatchback on our fleet, or the one the outgoing 2024 convertible used. Mini redesigned the Cooper line for 2025, and while the hatch kept its small three-cylinder, the convertible moved to a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder making 161 hp and about 249 Nm. Power goes to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and 0 to 100 km/h comes up in around 7.7 seconds, noticeably quicker than the old 1.5-litre car's 8.8 seconds.

That extra shove is easy to feel around town. It pulls cleanly away from a standing start at a Marina junction and has enough in reserve for a confident overtake on Sheikh Zayed Road without needing to plan the move in advance. It's still not a fast car, and it settles into a cruise rather than begging to be revved out, but it no longer feels like the entry-level engine it used to be. The trade-off is at the pump: a bigger four-cylinder working the AC hard in Dubai heat drinks more than the old three-cylinder did, so don't expect fuel economy gains just because the badge is newer.

Two seats worth of space, and the boot reality

Book this car with the seating in mind rather than the seat count on paper. It's a 2+2, and the rear pair suit a child or a short hop across town, not two adults settling in for the ride. Getting back there means folding a front seat forward and climbing through, so treat the back as occasional space if you use it at all.

The boot holds about 215 litres with the roof up, one large case and a soft bag, comfortably enough for two people packing for a week. Drop the fabric top and that shrinks to around 160 litres, because the folded roof eats into the same space. The honest packing rule: hard luggage and roof up on travel days, or soft bags only if driving open is the plan. The nose sits low, around 135 mm off the ground, so take the steeper Marina ramps and the sharper speed bumps slowly and at an angle rather than head-on.

Managing the heat with the top down

A silver convertible has one real advantage in a Dubai summer: light paint reflects more heat than a dark one, so the cabin doesn't bake quite as badly during the day as a black car left in the same spot. It's still a small cabin, which works in your favour once you're moving, because there's little air for the vents to pull down after a hot parked spell, and both front seats feel the cooling fast. There are no rear vents, so anyone using the back seats relies on airflow reaching them from the front.

The roof itself is a seasonal call. From around November through March, you can drive open for most of the day and enjoy it. Through the peak summer months, keep the roof down to early morning and after sunset, and never leave it folded on a car sitting in a car park at noon, because direct sun on the seats and dash does real damage over a week. Salik tolls on your route and any RTA fines during the rental come back to you as the renter, and seat belts are required in every seat you use.

Who should book this one
