The first thing we ask when someone books this car is which building we are delivering to. That sounds like small talk, and it isn't. At 4,601 mm the MG MG5 2024 is a longer car than its rate suggests, and plenty of older basement car parks in Dubai were drawn up for something shorter. We rent the MG5 across the city, bring it to you inside one to two hours, and hand keys to drivers from 18 when most desks here start at 21. What this page settles is whether a sedan with this footprint fits where you actually park, because that decides more about your week than anything else on the spec sheet.
4,601 mm long and 1,818 mm wide puts the MG5 at the top of the compact sedan class. It is a little longer than a Nissan Sunny and slightly wider than a Honda City, which on an open road you never notice. In a tight multi-storey bay you do. The width is the part that catches people out, because pulling in beside a badly parked SUV can leave you climbing out through a gap you would rather not.
Reversing in is the easy direction. Visibility over the boot lid is clear enough and the camera covers the rest, so backing into a standard mall bay takes one attempt. Nose-in against a wall is the one that goes wrong, since you cannot see where the front bumper ends and this car has a long, low nose to lose.
Low is the operative word here. The front lip sits close to the ground, so mall ramps and the sharper community speed bumps want walking pace and, on a steep ramp, a slight angle on the approach. Do that and nothing scrapes. Anything unpaved is a different conversation: no sand, no rough tracks. A low front-wheel-drive sedan is the wrong tool for that and careful driving does not change it.

Sitting at 120 on the E11 is the easiest thing this car does. The engine and CVT settle into a low, quiet cruise, and at that speed it returns something close to 6.0 L/100 km, so a run to Abu Dhabi and back barely dents the 45-litre tank.
Overtaking is where you adjust your expectations. There is no turbo here and the 150 Nm arrives gently, so speed builds rather than appears. Leave yourself a gap, commit early, and it is perfectly safe. Demand a sudden lane change at 120 with four people and luggage aboard and the gearbox will give you engine noise several seconds before it gives you the speed.
The other thing a long run tells you is how much sound the car lets in. Tyre roar over coarse asphalt is more present than it would be in a Japanese rival at similar money, and it builds past 100. On a twenty-minute commute you forget about it. On a two-hour drive between emirates you will not.
Two local costs are worth stating plainly. Salik is billed to you every time you pass a gate, and any RTA fine issued during your rental comes back to the renter, which on a car this comfortable at 120 is worth remembering.
A car left outside through a Dubai afternoon is hot, and the MG5 has no clever answer to that. Expect two to three minutes of driving with the fan up before the air turns properly cold. Opening both front doors for twenty seconds before you get in shifts most of the trapped heat and makes a real difference to how fast the system catches up. Front vent output is strong once it is running. People in the back are working off those front vents, which is fine for two adults and worth thinking about if you are carrying young kids in the afternoon.
The rest of the cabin follows the same logic as the price. Equipment is generous, with a decent central screen and more kit than you would get in a Sunny for similar money. Comfort extras are not part of the deal, so the seat and wheel surfaces come back genuinely hot after a few hours in direct sun, and nothing but time and airflow fixes that. A cheap windscreen shade is the best five minutes of preparation you can do on a summer rental.
Rent the MG MG5 2024 if you park somewhere modern or open, spend most of your week inside the city with the odd highway run attached, and want the most equipment and space per dirham in the economy class. For a family of four doing school runs, groceries and airport pickups, it does everything asked of it and costs very little to run over the 300 km a day included in the rate. Coming from a Sunny or a Yaris sedan, the MG feels better equipped and less well finished, and for most renters that trade lands the right way.
Look elsewhere if your building has one of those steep, short older basement ramps, or if your week is mostly long highway distance, where a quieter and more refined sedan like the Honda City earns its extra rate. If any part of your plan involves leaving tarmac, book something with real ground clearance instead. For city driving in a car park built this century, the MG5 is a lot of sedan for the money, and we can usually have one with you the same day you book.
