The Mercedes V-Class 2024 is the newest one on our lot, and the honest thing to say about it is that the year on the paperwork does more for the sticker than for the drive. Under the badge it carries the same 2.0-litre turbo four, 9-speed automatic and rear-wheel-drive layout as the 2023 cars we already rent out, refreshed in the cabin tech and trim rather than in the numbers that actually decide whether it fits your trip. We get it to your door within one to two hours of booking, which matters when a group is standing at arrivals with a luggage cart. This page settles one thing: whether the freshest seven-seat van on the fleet is worth booking for the group you're bringing, or whether it's more van than the week needs.

What's changed for 2024, and how it drives

Open the spec sheet and the drivetrain hasn't moved. The V-Class runs a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, 211 hp and 350 Nm, through a 9-speed automatic to the rear wheels, the same combination that's powered every W447 V-Class since its last major update. Zero to 100 km/h takes 9.4 seconds and top speed sits near 210 km/h, figures that were never the point of this van and still aren't. What the 2024 model brings is newer upholstery, tighter panel fit and a cabin that simply feels less used, which matters more than it sounds when you're paying for a premium ride, not a lap time.

On Sheikh Zayed Road the long wheelbase and the relaxed 9-speed gearbox do the same job they've always done: a settled, quiet cruise where the size of the van stops registering and the comfort takes over. Parking is the other story. At 5.14 metres long and 1.93 metres wide, it wants a driver who checks mirrors before diving into a tight mall bay, and a first attempt at a Marina ramp is worth taking slowly. Around 160 mm of ground clearance shrugs off speed bumps and a steep driveway without complaint, but this stays a road van, not a car for sand or rough tracks.

Three rows of seats, and the boot behind them

Seven seats across three rows, two up front, three on the middle bench, two behind, and every one of them holds an adult properly rather than folding a knee up for the ride. That's the detail that separates it from a three-row SUV claiming the same seat count but really meaning five real seats and two for children on short hops.

What surprises most first-time renters is the boot. With all seven seats in place there's still 1,030 litres behind the last row, enough for a full set of hold luggage and carry-ons from an airport run without anyone stacking a bag on their lap. Take the rear rows out and cargo space opens past 4,600 litres, useful on the day the booking is really about moving equipment rather than people. The trade-off runs the other way for a small group. If you're meeting two or three passengers rather than five to seven, you're steering and parking size you don't need, and a mid-size SUV covers the same trip with far less bulk.

Cooling the black cabin, mileage and fuel

This fleet car is black, and in a Dubai summer that matters more here than on a small hatchback, simply because there's more glass and more cabin air to shift. The AC handles it, with vents front and rear so the middle and back rows aren't waiting on the front seats to cool down, but the pull-down takes a few extra minutes rather than feeling instant. Running the engine briefly before everyone climbs back in, or parking in shade or a basement level, closes most of that gap.

The rental includes 250 km a day, which covers an airport run, a hotel transfer and a full day of city driving with room to spare, and anything past that runs at AED 0.5 per extra kilometre, a mild rate if a booking runs a little long. The 70-litre tank and a realistic 8 km/l around town put the range at roughly 500 to 560 km, so plan on a fuel stop every few days of normal use rather than daily. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental pass to the renter, and the minimum age to drive it is 25. As a premium vehicle it takes a refundable deposit rather than a no-deposit option, worth budgeting before you book.

Who actually needs seven seats, and who doesn't

Book this one when headcount is the real constraint: a family landing at DXB or DWC with grandparents who need a proper seat rather than a fold-out perch, a group of six or seven friends sharing a week, or a wedding party that wants to arrive together instead of splitting into two cars. Because it's the newest example we have, it's also the one to ask for if a spotless cabin matters to you as much as the seat count.

If you're two or three people, or the week is mostly solo errands, this is more van than the trip calls for, and a mid-size SUV will be easier to park and cheaper to run without giving up much. For a genuinely large group that wants everyone in one vehicle, with every seat usable and not just present, the V-Class still does that better than anything else on the fleet, new paint or not.
