What you're renting, and how it drives

Those numbers won't win any lights, and 9.4 seconds to 100 km/h tells you this is not a car you hustle. That is by design. The V-Class rides on a long wheelbase built for a smooth, settled cabin, not for darting through traffic, and the payoff is a calm, quiet ride at a Sheikh Zayed Road cruise where the size stops mattering and the comfort takes over.

Where it asks for patience is parking. At 5.14 metres long and 1.93 metres wide, it does not thread into a tight mall bay the way a sedan does, and a first-timer will want to take multi-storey ramps slowly. Around 160 mm of ground clearance handles speed bumps and shallow ramps without drama, but this is a road van, not a desert vehicle, so keep it on tarmac. Once you're used to its length, reversing and U-turns are straightforward. It just takes a Dubai week or two before the size stops feeling unfamiliar.

Seven seats, and the boot behind them

Seven seats is the headline, but the number that actually surprised us the first time we loaded one is the boot: 1,030 litres with all seven seats in place. That is more than most mid-size SUVs offer with their back row folded down, and here you get it with every seat still occupied. A week's luggage for a full family, several golf bags, or a set of hard cases for an airport pickup all fit without anyone playing suitcase Tetris in the driveway.

The middle row gives real legroom, not the knees-up bench you get in a cheaper seven-seater, and taller adults are comfortable on a DXB or DWC run rather than just tolerating it. Fold or remove the rear rows and cargo space grows past 4,600 litres, useful if you're moving equipment for a business trip rather than people. The one honest caveat: this is a genuinely large vehicle to manoeuvre solo, so if you're the only driver and the group is smaller than five, you're carrying size you don't need.

The mileage deal, and running it

The rental includes 5,000 km for the whole booking, not per day, which is a generous number if you're renting for a week or two of city driving. A realistic week of airport runs, hotel transfers and mall trips rarely clears a few hundred kilometres, so most renters never come close to the limit. Where it changes is a longer booking with a lot of daily use, worth doing the sum before you commit.

Go over that 5,000 km and the extra-kilometre rate is steep: AED 15 per kilometre. That is far higher than what a small rental car charges past its allowance, and it reflects the class of vehicle rather than any hidden penalty. Treat the included distance as generous but not unlimited, and if your trip looks likely to run long, ask us about it before you book rather than after. The 70-litre tank and roughly 8 km/l around town mean you'll be filling up more often than in a sedan, closer to every 500 to 560 km, which is normal for a vehicle this size and weight. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you as the renter, standard across our fleet, and you'll need to be 21 to take the keys.

A cabin this size takes longer to cool down than a sedan's after sitting in a Dubai car park. The front vents pull it down quickly once you're moving, and rear passengers get their own vents too, so the wait is measured in a few extra minutes rather than a real complaint. Given the black paint and the amount of glass, cracking a window for the first thirty seconds before you climb in helps more here than it does on a smaller car.

Who should rent it, and who's over-buying

Rent the V-Class if you're moving a genuine group, a family of five to seven, a small delegation, or a wedding party, and you want them to arrive together and comfortably rather than split across two cars. The combination of real third-row space and that 1,030-litre boot is hard to match at any price on our fleet, and for airport pickups where luggage and headcount both matter, it earns the rate.

If you're two or three people, this is more van than you need, and a mid-size SUV will be easier to park and cheaper to run without giving up much. And if your trip is going to rack up serious daily mileage, do the maths on that AED 15 per km rate before you book, because it adds up fast past 5,000 km. As a premium vehicle it comes with a refundable deposit rather than a no-deposit option, so budget for that upfront.
