We hand over the Mercedes V-Class 2020 across Dubai with 250 km a day built into the rental, which matters when you're shuttling a group between the airport, the hotel and a few sights and the kilometres add up fast. This is the people-mover residents and event planners ask for by name when a regular seven-seat SUV won't do. Seven seats, a quiet cabin and a boot that swallows a real pile of luggage make it the comfortable way to move a full group. What this page sorts out is whether the V-Class is the right call for your week, or whether you'd be happier in something smaller and cheaper.
This is the long-wheelbase V250d with the 2.0-litre diesel, 190 hp, a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. In van terms it's refined. The diesel is muted at a cruise, the gearbox shuffles ratios without fuss, and the ride stays composed even with seven people aboard. It's tuned for comfort and quiet, not pace. With a full load you feel the weight when you ask for a quick overtake, and 0 to 100 takes a little over ten seconds, which is fine for moving people and never going to feel sporty.
The rear is where the money shows. The seats are proper armchairs, there's room to stretch out, and conversation carries at motorway speed without anyone raising their voice. For a wedding party, a corporate pickup or a family that wants everyone in one vehicle, that calm cabin is the whole point.

Seven adults fit with room to spare, and that's the honest answer most rivals can't give. Unlike a packed seven-seat SUV where the third row is a penalty box, the V-Class third row is a place an adult will happily sit for an hour. Behind that last row you get 1,030 litres, which in practice means five or six large cases plus the soft bags, or a full airport run for a family without anyone hugging a suitcase on their lap.
If you're carrying both a full group and a mountain of luggage at once, you'll need to fold or drop a seat to free up more floor. For most groups it's one or the other at full capacity, and even then the V-Class handles it better than anything its size.
Cooling a cabin this big in a Dubai summer is the question that actually decides the rental. Park it in the open at 45 degrees and the first couple of minutes are warm while the system works through that volume of air. The advantage here is vents for every row, so once it's running the people in the back get the same cold air as the driver, not a trickle. Crack the doors for a moment before you load passengers and it settles quickly.
A few local points worth knowing. Salik tolls and any RTA fines run during your rental are passed to you. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which is easy to fit given the space. None of this is unusual for Dubai, but with a vehicle this size you'll clock up Salik gates on the main corridors more often than you'd expect.
This is a long, tall van, and you drive it like one. At over five metres it needs a generous bay, and tight multi-storey parking in Marina or older mall structures asks for patience. Watch the 1,880 mm height against the posted limit before you enter any covered car park, because some older structures are tighter than the V-Class clears comfortably.
The flip side: 160 mm of clearance and a high seating position make speed bumps and ramps a non-issue, and the all-wheel drive gives it sure footing pulling out of a sandy hotel forecourt. Visibility out is good, the reversing camera does the heavy lifting, but don't expect to thread it into the same gaps a hatchback would take.
This is where the V-Class earns its keep. On the E11 it cruises quietly at the limit, holds its line in crosswinds better than most vans, and has the muscle to merge and overtake without drama as long as you're not in a hurry. A DXB or DWC pickup with a full group and their cases is exactly the job it was built for. Everyone rides in comfort, nobody's wedged in, and the diesel keeps the refuelling stops rare.
On economy, expect mid-to-high single figures per 100 km in real Dubai driving, worse in stop-start traffic, better on a steady highway run. The 57-litre tank gives you a comfortable week of city use between fills, and on a longer transfer you'll get close to a full tank's range before you think about a station.
Rent the V-Class if you're moving six or seven people who all want to be comfortable: a wedding or corporate group, a large family on an airport-heavy holiday, or anyone who'd rather arrive relaxed than crammed. Nothing else in the rental fleet carries this many people this quietly with this much luggage room.
Skip it if your group is four or five. A seven-seat SUV is easier to park, cheaper to run and more than enough space, and you won't miss the extra seats. And if budget is the deciding factor and outright comfort isn't, a plain MPV does the people-carrying for less money. The V-Class is the premium choice, and you rent it precisely because comfort and space are what you're paying for.
