Smooth power and a Dubai summer

The 3.0-litre inline-six with mild hybrid assistance makes 367 hp and moves this large SUV to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, which is more than enough for relaxed, confident progress. It's not about outright speed. The engine cruises quietly on Sheikh Zayed Road and overtakes without strain, and the air suspension keeps the ride composed over speed bumps and expansion joints. The large fuel tank means fewer stops across a busy week, though a heavy car in city traffic with the AC working will use its share.

Cooling a cabin this big in July is a real test, and the GLS handles it well. The climate system reaches all three rows, the second-row passengers get their own controls, and even the third row has vents so children at the back aren't left baking. At over 5.2 metres long and nearly two metres wide, the GLS is a big vehicle to park.
