The Mercedes GLE range in Dubai often comes with a seven-seat option elsewhere in the lineup, so it is fair to ask before booking the Mercedes GLE 53 AMG 2023 whether this one has it too. The straight-six and electric boost, and how it drives

AMG tuned the familiar 3.0-litre turbocharged straight six to 429 hp and 520 Nm, and backed it with a 48-volt EQ Boost system that fills the gap before the turbo properly spools up. Mercedes-AMG quotes 5.3 seconds to 100 km/h, and a nine-speed automatic sends everything through 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, so the power goes down cleanly rather than spinning a wheel off a damp roundabout. On Sheikh Zayed Road the mid-range is what you actually notice: squeeze the throttle past 100 km/h and the GLE picks up speed in one motion instead of hunting for a downshift first.

It is worth being straight about what the all-wheel drive is for. 4MATIC+ earns its keep on a wet ramp or a graded track toward Hatta, not serious dune driving, and nobody should rent a GLE 53 expecting real off-road hardware. Keep it on tarmac and it is one of the more satisfying SUVs to drive in this fleet, quick enough that overtaking a slow truck on the E11 is a single confident move rather than a plan.

Second-row space, the boot and skipping the third row

Running costs, heat and keeping the cabin cool

Mercedes-AMG's own combined figure for this powertrain is 9.3 litres per 100 km, and the 85-litre tank is good for roughly 850 km of mixed driving before the gauge asks for attention. Expect that number to climb in stop-start traffic with the AC working hard, as it does on any turbocharged six, though it stays reasonable given how much performance is on tap.
