Rent a Mercedes GLE 450 2025 in Dubai and you're buying into the most crowded corner of the luxury SUV market, with a Range Rover Sport on one side and a BMW X5 on the other. Where it lands against its rivals matters more. A BMW X5 is the keener car to drive, firmer and sharper if you enjoy the wheel. A Range Rover Sport brings more road presence and a plusher sense of occasion for the money. The GLE sits between them and plays the comfort card hardest. If your week is about arriving relaxed rather than carving through corners, that's the right trade, and 375 hp keeps it effortless on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Space, seats and luggage

Five seats, and that's the car you'll get. Mercedes does sell the GLE with an optional third row for seven, but the rental is a five-seater, so plan around that before you book a big group. What five people get is generous. The rear bench seats two adults in real comfort behind tall front passengers, with head and knee room to spare on a long airport run, and a middle seat that works for a child rather than a fourth adult on a short hop.

The boot is one of the best in the class. It holds 655 litres behind the rear seats and opens past 2,000 with them folded. For a DXB or DWC pickup that's three large hard cases plus soft bags loaded flat, no wrestling required. Two adults, two kids and a week of mall runs never come close to filling it. If your trip is as much about moving people and luggage as it is about arriving in something smart, the space is there.

The drive, and keeping it cool in July

Sheikh Zayed Road is where the GLE makes the most sense. The mild-hybrid six has enough mid-range to finish an overtake on the E11 in one clean move, and at a 120 km/h cruise it settles into a quiet, planted calm that few SUVs match. The standard car rides well on its own, and the optional air suspension smooths patched tarmac and expansion joints even further. This is a highway cruiser first, a corner-carver a distant second.

On the heat, a cabin this size takes a moment longer to pull down from a 48-degree July car park than a small hatch would, simply because there's more air to move. The climate system is strong and gets there without fuss. Rear passengers get their own vents rather than waiting on cold air to reach them from the front, so the back seat cools on its own terms, and the cooled front seats take the sting out of hot leather when you first climb back in.

Size is the thing to plan around. At just under five metres long and a shade under two metres wide across the body, a tight Marina tower ramp or a narrow multi-storey bay asks for a moment of care, though the cameras and sensors do most of the work. The 4MATIC system and the clearance shrug off speed bumps and steep mall ramps, but be clear on what this is. It's a road-biased all-wheel-drive SUV, not a Range Rover built to wade and climb, so keep a rented GLE on the tarmac and off the dunes.
