Picture a normal Dubai week: the school run at seven, a mall stop in the heat, a beach afternoon, then a Friday airport pickup. That's the shape of trip the Mercedes GLC 300 2023 is built for, and we rent it across Dubai with 250 km a day included, which is enough for all of that before any extra charge. This is the new-generation GLC, the one with the upright tablet screen and the cleaner MBUX cabin, and that cabin is the reason to choose it over the older shape. This page is about whether the latest GLC suits how you actually drive, or whether you'd be better off bigger, smaller, or a year older for less.
If you've sat in the previous-shape GLC, the 2023 feels a clear step up the moment you're in. The dashboard is built around a tall central touchscreen and the latest MBUX system rather than the older button bank, the materials on the surfaces your hands touch feel genuinely expensive, and the digital cluster is quick rather than laggy. For a week of back-to-back trips, that polish is what you're paying the badge for, and it's the single biggest difference between this car and the cheaper crossover sitting next to it on the lot.
It's a five-seater. Two adults up front get plenty of room, and the back bench is genuinely usable for adults on a short hop, not just kids.

This is the part renters underestimate, and it matters from May through September. Leave a car parked in open sun here and the cabin hits oven temperatures within minutes, so the real question is how fast it recovers. The GLC's climate system pulls a baking cabin down to bearable in a couple of minutes and properly cold within five, which is what you want after it's sat at a mall for three hours. Rear passengers get their own vents, so children in the back aren't left to cook while the front cools first. The well-sealed, quiet cabin helps here too, holding the cooled air rather than leaking it.
The 2.0-litre turbo petrol with mild-hybrid assist puts out 249 hp, and the 6.2-second run to 100 means it never feels stretched. On Sheikh Zayed Road it sits at the limit quietly with plenty in hand for an overtake, and the 4MATIC all-wheel drive keeps it planted when crosswinds and merging traffic come together on the E11. On fuel, Mercedes quotes 7.3 litres per 100 km combined, but in Dubai reality, with the AC working against the heat and a lot of stop-start, expect closer to 9 or 10. The 62-litre tank still gives a comfortable range for a week, so you're looking at one petrol stop, two if you mix daily commutes with weekend trips out of town.
The boot holds 620 litres, which swallows two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags with room to spare, so a family of four heading to DXB for a week manages without folding anything down. Drop the rear seats and you free 1,680 litres for a flat-pack run or bulky kit. If you're routinely carrying four adults with four big cases, or you want a third row, this is where the larger GLE earns its keep instead.
At 4,716 mm long it's still a compact SUV, not a barge, so threading a Marina tower car park or backing into a tight mall bay is manageable. The 187 mm of ground clearance clears aggressive speed bumps and steep ramps without scraping, and the reversing camera and sensors that come standard on this generation take the stress out of the snug spots. One thing to settle before you set off: Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental pass to the renter, seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and under-fours need a child seat we can fit on request.
Rent the GLC 300 2023 if you want the newest cabin tech and the polished interior in a compact luxury SUV, and you're a couple or small family running the city, the beach and the airport across a week. The new-generation interior is the clearest reason to pick this year over the older shape.
Size up to a GLE if you regularly carry five adults with full luggage or want a third row. If the latest screen and trim aren't the deciding factor and you'd rather spend less, the previous-shape GLC 300 from 2022 does the same job for fewer dirhams. For the broad middle, though, the renter who wants comfort, badge and the current cabin without the bulk, the 2023 is the one we'd hand you the keys to.
