Colour matters more than you'd think here

Pick the colour with the summer in mind. A dark car looks sharp outside a hotel and hides dust between washes, but parked in open July sun it soaks up heat and the cabin climbs faster. A lighter shade like Polar White or one of the silvers stays a few degrees cooler before you've even started the engine, which is a real difference when you're loading kids at midday. None of it beats the AC, but it gives the climate system less to fight. If you're driving mostly at dawn and dusk it barely registers; if the car sits in a mall lot through the afternoon, lean lighter.

How fast it cools, and the heat test

This is the question every renter should ask in summer, and the GLC answers it well. On the road and the fuel stops

The mild-hybrid four makes 255 hp with a 23 hp electric boost, and that little assist is most useful low down, smoothing the stop-start crawl on Sheikh Zayed Road and filling the gap a turbo leaves before it spools. Out of town it cruises at the limit quiet and planted, with the 4MATIC keeping it steady when crosswinds and lane changes arrive together on the E11. It's a road SUV, so leave soft sand to a proper 4x4.

On petrol, the 62-litre tank is the number that decides your week. City driving in the heat with the AC working puts real consumption somewhere near 9 to 10 litres per 100 km, and the range works out around 640 km in town, more on the highway. That's one fill for a normal week of errands and a couple of airport runs, maybe a top-up if you stack long days out to Abu Dhabi.

Space, parking and the city

Rent the GLC 300 2024 if you want the current-generation cabin and the latest plate in a refined, quiet compact SUV, and you value how grown-up it feels over outright pace. For a couple or a small family running the city, the beach and the airport, it's the comfortable, sensible call, and the colour choice is a small bonus most rentals won't give you.

If the freshest registration isn't worth the premium, an earlier GLC 300 does much the same job for less. If you're mostly solo or a couple doing short city hops where parking is everything, a smaller GLA or GLB is cheaper to run and easier to thread through tight bays.
