Pull up outside a Dubai hotel ballroom or a product launch in a Mercedes G 63 AMG 2025 and for a few seconds the car gets more attention than whoever steps out of it. That reaction is the entire pitch of this SUV, and it is worth admitting before you commit a week to one: the boxy shape and the V8 under the bonnet exist to be noticed, not to be comfortable. Start it cold and the exhaust cracks off nearby glass, and a firm push on Sheikh Zayed Road brings a hard, low V8 pull that gets noticed two lanes over. Be honest about the rest: the steering is slow and light on feedback, the tall body leans in bends, and past 120 the flat face is visibly fighting the wind. Underneath sits a proper 4x4 with three locking differentials and a low-range gearbox, genuinely capable off road, but nobody points a rented G 63 at the dunes.

Is the signal worth the cost

Running one for a week is not cheap, and it is worth budgeting for before you fall for the badge. The 100-litre tank takes premium, and while Mercedes quotes a combined 14.7 litres per 100 km, real Dubai traffic with the AC working hard pushes that into the high teens.

The mileage allowance on this car is worth reading twice. Rather than a daily figure, you get 700 kilometres included across the whole rental, and every kilometre beyond that costs AED 0.5. For a one or two night stay that is generous. Stretch the booking to a full week of driving around for meetings and evenings out, and 700 km total goes quickly, so plan the trip before you commit rather than after.
