The hand-built 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the AMG "one man, one engine" build, now carries a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that fills the gap low in the rev range with a brief electric shove, so the throttle answers with less hesitation than the pre-facelift car did. Peak output holds at 585 hp and 850 Nm, sent through a nine-speed automatic to permanent all-wheel drive with three locking differentials and low range. The sprint to 100 km/h takes 4.4 seconds, a genuinely quick number for something this tall and square that weighs close to two and a half tonnes.

The number is not why anyone books it, though. Start it cold and the exhaust cracks against nearby buildings, and a firm push on Sheikh Zayed Road brings a deep, hard V8 pull that gets noticed two lanes over. That reaction is most of the appeal. Be honest about the rest of the drive: the steering is light and still slow to respond even with the 2025 car's new electric assist, the tall body leans through bends, and past 120 km/h you can feel the flat, upright shape working against a crosswind. Underneath sits a genuine 4x4, with real diff locks and a low-range gearbox that would happily climb a rough track. On a Dubai rental that ability sits unused. Nobody takes a hired G63 into the dunes, and this one should not be the exception.

Seats, boot and the width you actually drive around

Five real seats, upright and roomy, sit inside a cabin that feels more usable day to day than the shape promises. The tall glass gives a clear view over traffic, which makes placing this much car easier than the width suggests. Behind the rear seats there is 480 litres of boot, enough for an airport run with two large cases and a soft bag or two, though the tailgate swings out sideways with the spare wheel bolted to it rather than lifting up, so leave room to open it fully before you start loading.

Width is what you plan around. Across the mirrors the G63 runs close to 2.2 metres, and that is the figure that matters in a Marina tower bay or an older mall's multi-storey, not the quoted body width. Fold the mirrors in, take the ramp slowly, and it fits. Ground clearance of 241 millimetres makes speed bumps and steep driveway ramps a non-event. The one thing photos never prepare people for is the step up into the cabin. The running boards help, but getting in is a genuine climb, worth knowing if you are loading a child into the back seat or arriving somewhere in heels.

The black cabin, the tank and what a week actually costs

Black paint and tall, flat glass do the G63 no favours in a parked Dubai sun. Leave it outside through a July or August afternoon and the cabin loads up heat fast, so the first minute after you climb back in is a hot one. It does not stay that way. The climate system is strong front and rear, with real vents feeding the back seats rather than a thin trickle off the dash, and the cabin settles to comfortable within a couple of minutes on the move.

Fuel is the other number to plan around. The 100-litre tank takes premium, and the official combined figure sits near 14.7 litres per 100 km, but real Dubai traffic with the AC working hard pushes that into the high teens, so expect to fill up every couple of days rather than once a week. Your daily allowance is 250 kilometres, then AED 0.5 for every kilometre past that, generous enough that most weeks of city driving and airport runs will not come close to the cap. Who should book it at 21, and who should look elsewhere
