Rent Mercedes G63 2022 in Dubai

Renters ask us the same question about the Mercedes G 63 AMG 2022 most weeks: can it actually go off road. It can, more than almost anything else in our fleet. Three locking differentials and a genuine low-range gearbox sit under that boxy shape, hardware built for rock ledges and dune crossings, not valet ramps. Almost nobody who books this white G 63 ever touches any of it. We still deliver it to your hotel, villa or the terminal, usually within one to two hours of booking. The real question this page answers is different: does hardware built for terrain you will not drive still earn its place on a car that spends its week on Sheikh Zayed Road and outside hotel doors?

Three locking diffs, and nowhere in Dubai to use them

Permanent all-wheel drive is the baseline on this car, but AMG went further. The G 63 carries three locking differentials, front, centre and rear, plus a low-range gearbox that multiplies torque for crawling over rock or sand. Lock all three and it walks over terrain that strands most SUVs still on their factory tyres. This is genuine hardware, not a brochure badge.

None of it does anything for you on a rental week here. Locking a rear diff on Jumeirah Beach Road just wears the tyres unevenly, and nobody sane takes a hired G 63 into Hatta's wadis when a scraped underbody would end the trip early. What the hardware buys you instead is a feeling in reserve, the knowledge that the car could do it while it idles in a valet queue doing nothing of the sort.

The engine underneath all of that is the actual reason anyone books this car. It is a hand-built 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, assembled by a single AMG technician who signs the finished unit, making 585 hp and 850 Nm through a nine-speed automatic. Your 2022 car is the pre-facelift version, so there is no 48-volt hybrid assist smoothing the bottom end, the update Mercedes only added for 2025. You feel a short beat of turbo lag off the line before the V8 lands hard and hauls close to two and a half tonnes to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Start it cold and the exhaust cracks off nearby glass, and the pull on an open stretch is what turns heads three lanes over.

The steering is heavier and slower to answer than the electric setup fitted from 2025, and the tall body leans through bends. None of that is a surprise on something engineered first as an off-roader and only second as a status symbol.

What that off-road stance costs you in a parking bay

The same engineering that lets the G 63 crawl over rock also gives it a stance most city cars do not need. Ground clearance sits at 241 millimetres, closer to a pickup than a crossover, and it turns Dubai's speed bumps and the steepest mall ramps into non-events. The trade is width. Across the mirrors the G 63 runs close to 2.2 metres, wider than a standard G-Class because AMG flares the arches to cover a broader track. Fold the mirrors in for a tight Marina tower bay or an older multi-storey, and take the corners slower than expected.

Inside, five seats sit upright with real head room, and the flat glass makes the car easier to place than the width suggests. The boot holds 480 litres, enough for two large cases and a couple of soft bags off a flight, though the tailgate swings out sideways with the spare wheel bolted to it, so leave room behind you to open it. The other thing worth knowing before you book is the step up into the cabin. Running boards help, but it is still a climb, worth planning for if you are lifting a small child into the back or arriving somewhere in heels.

The white paint earns its keep in August

Colour matters more in a Dubai August than most renters expect, and white works in this car's favour. It reflects more sun than the black or blue paint on some of our other G 63s, so a few hours parked outside a mall leave it noticeably cooler to the touch. That does not solve the problem alone, since all that upright glass heats a cabin regardless of paint colour, and the first breath after a long stint in the sun is still warm.

What pulls the temperature down fast is the climate system, genuinely strong front and rear rather than a single set of vents doing all the work. Point them at yourself for the first minute of driving and the cabin settles to comfortable before you reach the highway. Park in shade or a basement level when you can, and the recovery is quicker still.

Paying for capability you will not call on

Running one of these is not cheap. The 100-litre tank takes premium, and while Mercedes quotes a combined 14.7 litres per 100 km, a week of Dubai traffic with the air conditioning working hard pushes real consumption into the high teens. Budget for regular stops. The rental includes 250 kilometres a day, with anything beyond that billed at AED 0.5 per kilometre, and Salik tolls plus any RTA fines during your rental come back to you as the renter. Being a luxury car, it takes a refundable deposit, and you need to be at least 25 to take the keys, older than the minimum age on most of our SUVs.

Book the G 63 AMG 2022 if the appeal is what we described at the top: hardware capable of far more than you will ever ask of it, wrapped around a V8 that makes every departure feel like an event. That combination is what you are actually paying for. If you need a quieter cruiser for long days on the E11 or a family SUV that swallows a week of luggage without complaint, a Mercedes GLS or a Range Rover costs less at the pump and asks less of you at every ramp and bay. The G 63 was never the sensible choice, and the locking diffs sitting unused under the floor prove how far it can go when sensible was never the point.
