Most Mercedes G 63 AMG 2020 listings we run in Dubai carry the same condition: a driver has to be 25 to take the keys. This one doesn't. The minimum age on this particular row is 21, which matters if you're booking for a trip where the person paying isn't yet a quarter century old. Beyond that detail, it's the G 63 you already know: a hand-built V8, a shape Mercedes hasn't visibly altered since 2019, and the kind of presence that turns a hotel forecourt into a small event. We drop it at your door, usually within one to two hours of booking. The real decision here isn't the badge, it's whether the terms on this row actually work for you.
The G-Class currently on sale, badge-coded W463A, has run unchanged since 2019, so a 2020 car shares its body, chassis and engine bay with everything up to the 2024 model year. Nobody should expect a 2020 to feel like an older, lesser G 63, because mechanically it isn't one. What actually varies between rows in this fleet isn't the hardware, it's the terms attached to each individual booking, and age is the one that trips people up. Several of the other G 63 listings here ask for a driver at least 25 years old. This 2020 row only needs 21, which opens the car to a younger group leader or a solo traveller who wants the V8 without waiting years for their bracket to catch up. A refundable deposit still applies, since being a luxury car doesn't change at 21, but the age gate itself sits lower here than on much of the range.
Everything that matters about a G 63 sits under the bonnet, and a 2020 car gets the full, unassisted version of it. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 is hand-built, one AMG technician per engine, and it sends 585 hp and 850 Nm through a nine-speed automatic to all four wheels. This is the pre-facelift car, so there's no 48-volt system filling in the low end the way the 2025 does. You get a beat of turbo lag off the line, then the V8 lands hard and hauls close to two and a half tonnes to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The number is almost beside the point. What sells the car is the bark on a cold start and the deep pull that has people in the next lane looking over on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Be honest about what it isn't. The steering is slow, the body leans through bends, and past 120 the flat, upright shape is visibly working against the wind. Underneath, three locking differentials and a low-range gearbox make it a genuine off-roader, more capable in sand than any renter here will test. Nobody points a hired G 63 at the dunes, and this one is no exception.

Five real seats and a boxy, upright cabin make the G 63 easier to live with day to day than its shape suggests. There's genuine head room front and back, and the flat glass gives a commanding view that helps when you're placing this much car in traffic. The boot holds 480 litres behind the rear seats, enough for two large cases and a soft bag off a flight, though the tailgate swings out sideways with the spare wheel bolted to it rather than lifting up, so leave room to open it fully before you reverse into a bay.
Width is what actually catches people out. Across the mirrors it runs close to 2.19 metres, so a narrow mall multi-storey or an older residential car park means folding them in and taking the corner slowly. The flat sides at least make the edges easy to judge. Ground clearance of 241 mm turns speed bumps and steep ramp entrances into non-events, which is more than most SUVs in this class can claim. The one thing every model year shares equally is the climb aboard: running boards help, but getting in is a real step up, worth planning for if young kids or anyone in heels is travelling with you.
This particular 2020 car is black, and black paint gives nothing back to a Dubai sun. Leave it in an open lot through a summer afternoon and the tall glass turns the cabin into a greenhouse, so the first breath after you climb back in is genuinely warm. That part hasn't changed across any model year Mercedes has built this shape. What saves it is a climate system that's strong front and rear, with real vents feeding the second row rather than a weak trickle off the dash, and it pulls the cabin down to comfortable within a minute or two of pulling away. Park in shade or a basement level when you can, and the wait is shorter still.
Running cost is the same for every year of this car. The 100-litre tank takes premium, and while the official combined figure sits near 14.7 litres per 100 km, real Dubai driving with the AC working hard pushes that into the high teens. Budget for regular stops. The rental includes 250 kilometres a day, then it's AED 0.5 for every kilometre over that, and Salik tolls plus any RTA fines during the rental come back to you. As a luxury car it takes a refundable deposit, and here the minimum age to drive it is 21, lower than several of the other G 63 rows we run.
Book this 2020 if you're between 21 and 24 and other G 63 listings have turned you away on age alone, or if you simply want the hand-built V8 and the shape without worrying about which plate year gets you there. Look elsewhere if what you actually need is a quieter, softer SUV for a week of family driving. A Range Rover or a Mercedes GLS will use less fuel and ride flatter over Dubai's patched side streets, because the G 63 was never built to be the comfortable option, at 21 or at any age above it.
