A Mercedes G63 2021 in Dubai rents around two numbers that matter more than the daily rate: 5,000 kilometres cover the whole booking, not a daily reset, and every kilometre past that costs AED 7. That overage rate is steep, steep enough that it's worth doing the arithmetic on your week before you sign rather than after you've driven it. We get the car to your door within one to two hours of booking, hotel, villa or the terminal. The V8 underneath and the presence it carries into a valet line still matter, but on this particular car the mileage line decides more of your final bill than anything else on this page, so it goes first.
Under the bonnet is Mercedes-AMG's hand-built 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the "one man, one engine" build where a single technician assembles and signs the unit. It makes 585 hp and 850 Nm, sent through a nine-speed automatic to a permanent 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system with three locking differentials and low range. This 2021 is the pre-facelift car, built before Mercedes added the 48-volt mild-hybrid assist in 2025, so there's a short beat of turbo lag off the line before the V8 lands hard and hauls close to two and a half tonnes to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
The number is not really why anyone books it. The sound is. A cold start cracks loud enough to make a valet look up, and a firm squeeze of the throttle on an open stretch of Sheikh Zayed Road draws attention from lanes over. Be honest about the rest of the drive: the steering is slow, the tall body leans through bends, and past 120 km/h the flat, upright front is visibly working against the wind. It's a brick and never pretends otherwise. The three diff locks and low range make it a genuinely capable 4x4, but that's a fact about the hardware, not a reason to book one. Nobody should take a rented G63 dune-bashing.

Five real seats sit upright with decent headroom front and back, and the high driving position makes placing this much width in traffic easier than the shape suggests. Behind the rear seats there's 480 litres of boot, enough for two large cases and a soft bag off a DXB run, not a third case stacked on top. The tailgate swings out sideways with the spare wheel bolted to it rather than lifting up, so park with room to open it fully.
The width is the thing to plan around. Across the mirrors this G63 runs close to 2,187 mm, wider than the bay lines painted for most SUVs, so a tight Marina tower or an older mall's multi-storey means folding the mirrors in and taking the corner slowly. The flat, dead-straight sides at least make the edges easy to judge, and 241 mm of ground clearance turns speed bumps and steep ramp entrances into non-events. Getting in is its own small task: running boards help, but it's a proper climb into a high seat, worth knowing if young kids or anyone in heels is travelling with you. Your car is white, which throws back a little more sun than the black examples in this fleet, but the G63 is mostly tall glass, and glass heats a parked cabin regardless of the paint. The first minute back in after a few hours outside is still warm. What saves it is a strong climate system front and rear, with real vents reaching the back seats, that pulls the cabin down to comfortable within a couple of minutes on the move.
The 5,000 km allowance is pooled across the whole rental rather than reset each day, so a heavy day of airport runs and a Friday out to Hatta can sit next to several quiet days around the hotel without costing extra, as long as the total stays under the cap. For most renters that's genuinely enough. A week that mixes a Marina to Downtown commute, one DXB pickup and a weekend drive rarely clears a couple of thousand kilometres, let alone five.
Where it gets expensive is going past it. At AED 7 a kilometre, this is one of the steepest overage rates in the fleet, well above the fifty fils or fixed dirham some other G-Wagons here charge once their pool runs out. Fifty kilometres over adds AED 350 to the bill, and 200 kilometres over adds AED 1,400, on top of whatever you already paid to book the car. That's a real number if you're planning repeated Abu Dhabi runs, a long daily commute, or a rental that stretches past a couple of weeks. Track your distance as you go rather than finding out at drop-off. Fuel adds to the same running-cost picture: the 100-litre tank takes premium, the official combined figure sits near 14.7 litres per 100 km, and real Dubai driving with the AC working hard pushes that into the high teens, so expect to stop at the pump every couple of days. Salik tolls and any RTA fines picked up during the booking are billed back to you as the renter, same as on any other car in the fleet.
Book the G63 if the hand-built V8, the noise and a shape nothing else in Dubai's rental fleet quite matches are the actual reason you want an SUV, and your week stays inside normal city driving rather than long highway loops. As a luxury car it takes a refundable deposit, and you'll need to be at least 21 to take the keys.
Look elsewhere if your plans involve serious daily distance or a full family's worth of luggage. A Range Rover or a Mercedes GLS rides softer, drinks less, carries more, and turns an accidental overage into a far smaller number on the final invoice. The G63 was never built to be the sensible choice, and at AED 7 a kilometre past the allowance, this particular rental makes that trade plain before you even pick up the keys.
