Most drop-tops on a Dubai fleet seat two and stop there. The Mercedes E450 2020 Cabriolet doesn't: it's the E-Class with the roof cut off, in white, with a genuine back seat rather than a parcel shelf pretending to be one. We get it to your door anywhere in Dubai within one to two hours of booking. If you've been comparing it to a two-seat sports convertible, that's the real difference, not the badge. This page is about whether the extra seats and the extra size are worth it over something smaller, and where a Cabriolet this size starts to work against you.
The E450 runs the M256, a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt EQ Boost system that fills in torque before the turbo spools up. It makes 367 PS (362 hp) and 500 Nm, sent through a nine-speed automatic to all four wheels. 4MATIC is standard on this body style, not an option you pay to add, and that matters more here than on a hardtop. A soft-top loses some of the structural stiffness a fixed roof gives a coupe, and putting power down through all four wheels rather than two keeps the car composed off a wet roundabout or a quick move off a light.
Zero to 100 km/h takes about 5.1 seconds, close to a second off the E450 Coupe's time, since the extra bracing a pillarless convertible body needs adds weight the coupe doesn't carry. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h. None of that is the point of renting this car, but the inline-six pulls with a smoothness a four-cylinder convertible can't match, and on Sheikh Zayed Road an overtake is one clean push of the throttle rather than a downshift and a wait.
Here's the honest part: this is a four-seat car, not a five-seat car. The rear "bench" is really two individual seats split by a wide centre console, so a middle rear passenger was never part of the design. Two adults in the back for a dinner run or an airport pickup work fine over a short distance. Rear legroom is noticeably tighter than the E-Class sedan, so a tall adult on a long drive will feel it, but for the kind of trip a Dubai renter actually takes with a Cabriolet, an hour here and there, it's not a problem.
Getting to those seats means folding a front seat forward, since there are only two doors. The roof itself is a fabric soft-top that opens or closes in about 20 seconds and can do it at up to 50 km/h, so you're not stuck waiting at a standstill in valet traffic to drop it.
Boot space is 385 litres with the roof up, which is a genuinely usable figure for this class, enough for a couple of large cases. Roof down, that drops to 310 litres, because the folded soft-top stows inside the boot behind its own cover. The shape doesn't change to match, so a hard-shell case that slides in fine roof-up can be an awkward fit once the roof is stowed. Pack soft bags if you know you'll be driving open for most of the trip.

The 66-litre tank and an official combined figure of 8.2 L/100km sound generous, but that number comes from a test cycle with the roof up and no Dubai summer to fight. Run the AC constantly and drop the top on the highway some of the time and a real-world figure closer to 9.5 L/100km is more honest, which still puts a mixed week of city driving at roughly 600 km between fills. It takes premium fuel, standard for this engine.
Roof up, the cabin cools the way you'd expect from a car this size: climb back in after a few hours in a 45-degree car park and the front vents pull the temperature down within a couple of minutes once you're moving. What you don't get with the roof down is any real relief from the heat, so treat open-top driving here as an early-morning or evening thing between roughly November and March, not a midday-in-August plan. Mercedes builds in AIRCAP, a wind deflector above the windscreen plus one between the rear headrests, which cuts buffeting noticeably at speed when the roof is stowed. It's a genuine advantage over a smaller convertible without one. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, and seat belts are required in every seat, front and back.
Parking asks for the same care as any low, wide convertible. At just over 4.8 metres and sitting close to the road, the nose wants a slow, angled approach over sharp speed bumps and into Marina or mall ramps, and this isn't a car to rush into a tight multi-storey bay.
Rent the E450 Cabriolet 2020 if you want the top-down experience but need it to work for two people some of the time and four occasionally, not just a solo or couple's toy. The standard 4MATIC grip and the six-cylinder pull make it satisfying on a highway run, and the back seats mean it can do an airport pickup for a small group where a two-seat convertible simply can't.
Look elsewhere if you need real rear-door access, a full family's worth of luggage with the roof down, or you're regularly carrying three or four adults on longer drives. The E-Class sedan gives you the same drivetrain, four proper doors and a bigger boot that doesn't shrink when you fold anything away. As a luxury convertible, this one is rented against a refundable security deposit rather than a no-deposit deal, so budget for that at booking. The daily allowance is 250 km, extra kilometres run at AED 0.5 each, and you'll need to be at least 25 to take the keys. We can have it at your door within one to two hours of booking.
