Lincoln Aviator 2020 - start from 481 AED / day

Plush, quiet, and built for hauling a family in comfort, the Lincoln Aviator 2020 is the kind of three-row SUV you rent in Dubai when you want the room of a big German seven-seater without paying German-flagship money for the feel. We hand it over to your door in one to two hours, and every booking comes with 250 km a day included, which is more than enough for school runs, mall trips, and the odd dash to the airport. This is a soft, long-distance cruiser with a usable third row. The argument of this page is simple: for a family that values a hushed, cosseting cabin over sharp handling, the Aviator delivers more car-for-the-feeling than almost anything in its class, as long as you go in clear-eyed about its size and its thirst.

Who this car is actually for

Picture two adults up front, two kids in the middle captain's chairs, and grandparents or a couple of teenagers in the back. The Aviator carries seven, and the third row is genuinely sittable for adults on shorter hops, not the token bench you fold flat and forget. That's the whole point of renting one. If your group is four or fewer and you mostly drive in the city, you're paying for space and a soft ride you won't fully use, and a smaller crossover would suit you better. But for a full house, this car earns its keep.

The cabin is where the money shows. It's quiet at speed, the seats are wide and supportive, and the materials feel a cut above the mainstream. Lincoln tuned this car for calm rather than corners, so it leans a little in fast bends and the steering is light. On Sheikh Zayed Road that translates to relaxed, effortless cruising. If you want a sharp drive, this isn't it, and a Porsche Cayenne or BMW X5 will entertain you more for the same seat count.

Does my family and luggage fit

With all seven seats up, boot space is modest, enough for a few soft bags or the weekly shop, not a stack of hard suitcases. Drop the third row and it opens into a long, flat load bay that swallows a family's worth of luggage with room to spare. For a typical DXB airport run with five or six people and their cases, the realistic move is to keep the back row down and load the rest in. With all rows occupied, plan to put bigger bags up on roof level of the cargo area or send a second vehicle.

The middle-row captain's chairs are the cabin's best trick. Kids get their own space, climbing into the third row is easy through the gap, and nobody fights over the centre seat because there isn't one. Three across in the back of the second row isn't an option here, so a family of seven splits two and three across the rear rows.

Those numbers tell you two things. First, 400 horsepower from the twin-turbo six means this big SUV is quick when you ask it to be, with a genuine 5.5-second sprint to 100, so overtaking on the E11 is never a worry. Second, it's rear-wheel drive, so it's a road car, not a dune machine. The clearance handles speed bumps and mall ramps fine, but it isn't built for soft sand or rough desert tracks.

How often will I refuel

Be honest with yourself here. A big petrol V6 hauling two-and-a-half tonnes is not economical, and Dubai's stop-start traffic and constant air-conditioning push real-world figures toward the thirsty end. On a week of mixed city and highway driving, expect somewhere around 12 to 14 litres per 100 km. With a tank near 76 litres, that's roughly 550 to 650 km between fills in normal use, less if you sit in Marina gridlock with the AC blasting. For most families that means topping up once or maybe twice across a week. If running cost is your main concern, this is the wrong size of car and you should look at a four-cylinder crossover.

Living with it in Dubai

The thing that matters most in a Dubai summer is how fast a big cabin cools, and the Aviator handles 45-degree heat well. The climate system pulls a baking parked interior down to comfortable within a few minutes, and there are vents for all three rows, so the kids in the back aren't left to swelter while the front gets cold. For a family car here, working rear vents are not a luxury, they're the difference between a peaceful drive and a mutiny.

A few practical Dubai notes. You pay the Salik tolls on your trip, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, so keep an eye on the speed cameras on the big highways. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can supply. The Aviator's size is the one thing to respect day to day. At over five metres long it's a handful in tight Marina basement bays and older mall car parks, and you'll want the parking cameras and sensors, which it has, every single time you reverse into a bay. U-turns take a wider arc than you're used to. On the open road none of this matters, but in a packed multi-storey, give yourself a moment.

The verdict

Rent the Lincoln Aviator 2020 if you're moving five to seven people and you want them to arrive relaxed in a quiet, plush cabin without paying flagship-German prices for the privilege. It's a comfort-first family cruiser that's brilliant on the highway and generous inside. Skip it if your group is small, if fuel cost drives your decision, or if you want a 4x4 for the dunes, in which case size down to a crossover or pick a body-on-frame full-size SUV instead. For its core job, hauling a family in comfort across the city and out to the airport, it's one of the easiest cars on our fleet to recommend.
