Lexus UX 2021 - start from 267 AED / day

If you want a compact luxury crossover that slips into a Marina parking bay without a three-point shuffle, the Lexus UX 2021 is one of the easiest premium cars to live with in Dubai, and we deliver it to your door in 1 to 2 hours. This is the model that puts a real Lexus badge, cabin, and ride within reach of singles and couples who don't need the bulk of a bigger SUV. It looks like more car than it is, which is the whole appeal. The catch sits in the back: the rear seat and boot are tight, so the UX rewards people travelling light and punishes anyone expecting an NX-sized cabin.

What the UX actually is

It's a 2.0-litre petrol crossover, front-wheel drive, with a five-seat cabin and the build quality the badge implies. The 171 hp engine and automatic gearbox aren't built for drama. They're tuned for a quiet, planted feel that suits Dubai's long stretches of dual carriageway better than a quick sprint. Nine seconds to 100 km/h is enough to merge onto Sheikh Zayed Road without thinking about it, and the UX settles into a 120 cruise with very little road or wind noise reaching you. Above that it runs out of obvious enthusiasm, but it never feels strained at legal speeds.

The character here is refinement, not pace. Doors shut with a solid thunk, and the suspension soaks up patched tarmac and expansion joints in a way most mainstream small SUVs can't match. That's what you're paying the badge for.

Parking and city size

This is where the UX earns its keep. At under 4.5 metres long it's barely bigger than a hatchback, so the tight bays in older Marina towers, the steep mall ramps, and the multi-storey corners that intimidate a full-size SUV are all easy. U-turns take one bite, and the light steering makes low-speed manoeuvring almost effortless. If your week involves a lot of valet stands and narrow garage entries, the UX is far less stressful to place than something the size of an NX.

Ground clearance sits at 160 mm. That's fine for speed bumps, kerbs, and mall ramps, and you won't be scraping the nose on the aggressive humps around residential blocks. It is not a desert tool, though. Front-wheel drive and a low ride height mean soft sand and proper off-road tracks are off the table, so leave Hatta's rougher trails to a real 4x4.

Does your luggage fit

Be honest with yourself before you book. The boot is around 320 litres, which is small for the segment. Two people with one large case and a couple of soft bags will manage an airport run to DXB or DWC without drama. Add a third passenger with their own suitcase and you're folding part of the rear seat or stacking bags on a lap. Fold the seats down and the space opens up usefully for a flat-pack run or sports kit, but as a four-adults-and-cases machine the UX falls short. If that's your trip, this is the moment to size up to an NX.

The rear seat tells the same story. Two adults sit comfortably for a cross-town drive, but legroom and the high window line make it snug for tall passengers on a longer haul. It's a couple's car far more than a family hauler.

Heat, AC, and the daily realities

In a Dubai summer the cabin matters more than the brochure. Park the UX in the open at 45 degrees and the AC pulls the heat down quickly once you're moving, helped by the small cabin volume and strong front vents. There are rear vents too, so a back-seat passenger isn't left to suffer. Within a few minutes of a hot start it's comfortable, and on the move it holds temperature easily.

A couple of operational points worth knowing. You'll pay the Salik tolls on your route, and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, so watch the speed limits and the toll gates on the main arteries. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat, and a child seat is required for under-fours, which we can arrange.

On fuel, the official combined figure is 6.6 L/100km, but real Dubai driving with AC running hard and stop-start traffic lands closer to 8 to 9. Even so, the 47-litre tank gives you a comfortable week of city use between fills, and you're not making frequent station stops.

Who should rent the UX, and who shouldn't

Rent it if you're a couple or a solo traveller who wants the Lexus badge, the quiet ride, and a car that parks itself into any bay across the city. For mall runs, restaurant nights, airport transfers with modest luggage, and relaxed highway cruising, it's one of the most comfortable compact crossovers we hand over.

Skip it if you're carrying four adults and a week of suitcases, or if you want any real off-road ability: the NX gives you the space and the AWD grip the UX can't. And if the badge isn't the point and you just want a roomy small SUV for less, a mainstream rival will save you money without much daily sacrifice. But for the buyer who wants premium feel in a genuinely city-sized footprint, the UX is the smart pick.
