What the badge actually buys

The Vogue HSE sits at the top end of the Range Rover line, and the presence is the product. In black, this car reads as serious money on any Dubai forecourt, and the cabin backs it up: deep leather seats, a hushed interior, and the kind of finish that makes a sedan in the same price bracket feel ordinary. Rear passengers get their own air vents and proper room to stretch, so a guest in the back is as well looked after as the driver.

The view out is its own luxury. You sit high above the traffic, looking down on the Land Cruisers around you, and on a long cruise that elevated, quiet position is genuinely restful. Leave a few minutes at handover to set the displays the way you like before you drive off.

The drive

Under the bonnet is the supercharged 3.0-litre V6 rated at 335 hp, paired with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. It reaches 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and tops out at 220 km/h, far beyond anything Dubai's limits allow. Power arrives smoothly, the supercharger filling in low down so there's no waiting for a clean overtake on the E11. This is a highway car first: relaxed at the limit, quiet, and effortless to cover distance in.

Luggage, heat and parking

The boot holds 550 litres, enough for several cases for a couple or a small family, with the rear seats folding flat if you need to move more than people. For most airport runs to DXB or DWC it's plenty, though if you're collecting four adults with full luggage every day, the standard full-size Range Rover's larger boot is the better tool.

A black flagship parked in July sun gets brutally hot inside, and the first couple of minutes are unpleasant whatever you drive here. The climate system is strong, and the rear vents mean passengers behind cool at the same pace. Give it a few minutes and the large cabin holds a cold, even temperature.

On parking, accept the footprint. At roughly five metres long and over two metres wide, the Vogue HSE fills a standard mall bay and demands care on tighter Marina ramps. The 360 camera does most of the work, but you'll take U-turns wide. Speed bumps and mall lips disappear under the air suspension.

Running costs and capability

The supercharged V6 is thirsty. Expect around 13 to 16 l/100km in city driving, easing on a steady highway cruise but never light. The 85-litre tank still gives a useful range, so on mixed use you're filling once or twice in a week. Use premium petrol.

The capability under the luxury is real. All-wheel drive, raisable air suspension and 900 mm of wading depth mean it handles desert tracks and the routes toward Hatta with ease, the extra clearance keeping it clear of ruts that beach lesser SUVs. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, and a child under four needs a child seat, which we can fit. This trim usually carries a slightly higher driver-age and experience requirement than our budget cars, so check the booking terms before you set the date.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Vogue HSE 2024 if presence is the reason you're booking: an event, a client week, or simply the wish to arrive in the most recognised luxury SUV on the road. The badge, the black-on-leather cabin and the commanding stance are exactly what you're paying for, and few cars deliver them as completely.

Look elsewhere if your week is mostly tight city parking or you're watching fuel cost, where a Velar or a smaller luxury SUV is far easier and cheaper. And if maximum boot space for airport runs is the priority over the trim, the standard full-size Range Rover carries more. For pure presence, though, the Vogue HSE is the top of the range for a reason.
