Land Rover Range Rover Velar 2023 - start from 625 AED / day

Few SUVs make a week of Dubai driving feel this calm. We deliver the Range Rover Velar 2023 to your door in Dubai, usually inside one to two hours, with 250 km a day built into the rate so a run out to the airport and back doesn't eat into your allowance. The Velar's real argument isn't the badge on the bonnet, though that opens doors at the right hotel forecourt. It's how quietly it covers ground. On Sheikh Zayed Road at a settled 120 the cabin stays hushed, the air suspension irons out the seams, and you arrive less tired than you would in most rivals at this price. This page is about whether that refinement suits your week, and where it doesn't.

What you actually get for the money

The version we rent is the P300, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo making 300 hp, paired to an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. It reaches 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, which is more than enough to merge onto the E11 with traffic doing 110 and pull a clean overtake without drama. The character isn't sporty so much as effortless. Power arrives smoothly and at cruising speed the engine all but disappears.

What the Velar trades on is poise. The steering is light, the ride is soft without wallowing, and road noise is kept further away than the rental rate suggests. If your week is mostly highway miles and hotel runs, this is a lot of car for the booking.

Refinement on the road, and where it ends

The reason to pick the Velar over a sharper rival is the quiet. The cabin is well sealed, the seats are supportive over long stints, and the air suspension settles the body so passengers in the back aren't tossed around. For an airport pickup at DXB or a long evening drive out toward the desert road, it's a genuinely comfortable place to sit.

That softness has a flip side. This is a heavy SUV tuned for calm rather than corners, so push it hard through a fast direction change and you'll feel the body lean and the nose understeer. None of that matters at Dubai speeds. Just don't book it expecting a back-road weapon. Book it because you want to step out of it fresh.

Heat, AC and the parked-cabin problem

Park a dark SUV in open sun here in July and the cabin hits oven temperatures within minutes. The Velar's air conditioning is strong and cools a baking interior down to comfortable inside a few minutes of driving, helped by rear vents that keep passengers in the second row from baking on the way. Drop the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the heat, then let the system catch up. For families, that rear airflow is the detail worth knowing: the back seats don't get left to suffer.

Parking a wide SUV and clearing the bumps

At nearly 1.93 metres across the body, plus the mirrors, the Velar is wide. In Marina multi-storey bays and older mall structures you'll want to take the turns slowly and use the cameras, because the painted lines weren't drawn for a car this broad. It isn't unmanageable, just deliberate.

Where it pays you back is ground clearance and the suspension. At 213 mm of clearance, with air springs soaking up the worst of it, steep mall ramps and the tall speed bumps around residential clusters pass underneath without a scrape or a thud. Cars that sit lower flinch at those bumps. The Velar shrugs.

Fuelling and running costs over a week

The official combined figure is 7.8 L/100km, but that's a lab number. In real Dubai use, with the AC working hard and stop-start traffic on the school run, expect closer to 10 to 11 L/100km, and more if you're heavy on the throttle. With a 63-litre tank, a mixed week of city and highway driving means roughly one fill-up, maybe a top-up if you're commuting far daily. It takes premium fuel, which is still cheap by global standards but worth budgeting for over a 4.0-litre rival.

A few Dubai costs sit with you, not us. Salik tolls are billed to the renter, RTA fines pass through, and seatbelts are required in every seat with a child seat for under-fours.

Does your luggage fit

The boot is a sensible shape and swallows the kind of load a couple or a small family travels with. Two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags go in cleanly, which covers most DXB or DWC arrivals. Add a third large case and a pushchair and you'll be folding part of the rear bench. For four adults each with a big case, the boot is the limit before the cabin, so plan loads with that in mind rather than the seat count.

Who should rent it

Rent the Velar 2023 if you want a refined, quiet SUV that makes long Dubai drives easy and looks the part at a hotel or restaurant forecourt, for two adults or a small family who value comfort over outright pace. The 250 km daily allowance suits airport runs and longer evening drives without anxiety. If you're carrying four adults with full airport luggage every day, or you specifically want the smoother inline-six and its mild-hybrid economy, size up within the Range Rover range. But for the money, as a comfortable cruiser with a badge that carries weight, the P300 Velar is hard to argue with.
