We deliver the Range Rover Velar 2023 to your door in Dubai in about one to two hours, fuelled and ready, so you can swap a rental desk queue for a car waiting outside. This is the design-led member of the Range Rover family, a midsize luxury SUV built around clean surfaces, flush door handles and a calm, minimalist cabin. Rent it for the look and the badge at a sensible recent-year rate, not for cavernous space or sports-car pace. Couples and small families who want a stylish week behind a Range Rover wheel get exactly that. The honest catch is room, and we get into that below.
The Velar slots between the compact luxury crossovers and the full-size Range Rover. It is lower and sleeker than its boxier relatives, and that shape is the whole point. You sit high, the dashboard is stripped of clutter, and the materials feel expensive without shouting. The version we run is the P300, a 2.0-litre turbo four making 300 PS through an eight-speed automatic and full-time all-wheel drive.
So it has pace on paper, 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, but the character is comfort first. Throttle response is smooth rather than urgent, and the gearbox prefers easing up to speed over snapping through ratios. On Sheikh Zayed Road it cruises and overtakes without drama, and it settles into a quiet lope at motorway speeds. Push hard from a standstill and there is a half-beat of lag before the turbo wakes up. For most Dubai driving that suits the car. If you want a genuinely fast Range Rover, this is not the one to pick.

| Boot | up to 673 litres |

The Velar lists up to 673 litres of boot space, and on the face of it that sounds generous. In practice the load floor is wide but the opening is styled rather than square, so it swallows soft bags more happily than a stack of hard cases. Two large suitcases and a couple of cabin bags fit for an airport run. Add a third big case and a pushchair and it gets tight, and you will be folding part of the rear bench.
Rear legroom is the bigger compromise. The sloping roofline and raked rear glass cost headroom and knee space against squarer rivals like a BMW X3 or the bigger Range Rover Sport. Two adults in the back are comfortable for a Marina-to-airport hop. Three across for a long day out is doable but not roomy. If your trips routinely carry four or five adults plus luggage, the Velar will feel snug, and you should size up.
Cabin cooling matters more here than almost any spec, and a car parked in June sun turns into an oven. The Velar pulls a hot cabin down quickly once you get moving, helped by strong front vents and rear vents for back-seat passengers, which not every car in this bracket includes. The first couple of minutes are still warm while the system clears the heat soak, so crack the windows for a few seconds before you set off. Once it is cold, it holds temperature well even at 45 degrees with the sun on the glass.
At just under 4.8 metres long and close to two metres wide at the mirrors, the Velar is a proper midsize SUV, not a small one. Standard multi-storey bays in malls take it fine, but the tighter older car parks and some Marina ramps ask for care on the mirrors. Visibility forward is good from the high seat. The rear glass is shallow, so the camera and sensors earn their keep when reversing.
Ground clearance is a healthy 213 mm, so speed bumps, raised mall ramps and the lips around residential compounds clear without scraping. That same clearance and the all-wheel drive handle a firm desert track or a flat run out toward Hatta without complaint. This is not a dune car, though. The road-biased tyres and low front splitter mean serious soft sand is a job for a hardcore 4x4, so keep the Velar to graded tracks and tarmac adventures.
Official combined economy is 7.8 L/100km, but treat that as a lab figure. Real Dubai driving, short hops, heavy AC and stop-start traffic, will push you nearer 10 to 12 L/100km in town. With the 63-litre tank that still gives a comfortable working range, so on a normal week of city errands and a couple of longer runs you are filling up roughly twice, not daily. It takes premium unleaded, which is worth knowing before your first stop.
Daily mileage runs to 250 km, which covers almost any city-based week. Salik toll gates charge automatically as you pass them, and those tolls are the renter's responsibility, as are any RTA fines from the trip. Seat belts are mandatory front and back, and a child seat is required for under-fours.
Rent the Velar 2023 if you are a couple or a small family who wants a stylish, comfortable, genuinely good-looking SUV for a Dubai week, and the Range Rover badge matters to you. It rides beautifully, the cabin is a lovely place to spend time in traffic, and it looks the part at any valet stand in the city.
Skip it if space is your priority. Four adults with full airport luggage, or anyone who needs a true third row, will be happier in a larger Range Rover or a roomier mainstream SUV. And if you want speed over serenity, the P300 is quick enough but tuned for calm, so look further up the range. For everyone else who values design and ride over outright practicality, the Velar is one of the easiest luxury SUVs to recommend.
