Most Range Rover Velar rentals on our Dubai fleet carry a minimum age of 25. This Range Rover Velar 2020 is the one row where that gate drops to 21, which matters if you're a younger renter who wants a design-led Range Rover rather than a hatchback while you're still building up rental history. We hand it over in black, usually within one to two hours of booking, anywhere in Dubai. It's also a pre-facelift car, built before Land Rover reworked the dashboard and grille for the following model year, and that timing shapes this rental more than the age gate does. This page settles whether the older cabin is a real trade-off or a footnote next to being able to book it at 21.
This Velar runs the 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder, badged P250, putting out 250 hp and 365 Nm through an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. It's the volume engine across every Velar year we've run, pre-facelift included, so the outright numbers aren't where this car differs from its newer siblings. Zero to 100 km/h takes around 7.1 seconds, unhurried rather than quick, and the cabin stays composed once you settle into a Sheikh Zayed Road cruise.

| Fuel economy | Around 9 L/100km combined |

The all-wheel drive here is set up for grip and stability on wet tarmac or a graded track, not for low-range crawling, so treat it as a system built to handle a rain-slicked roundabout with confidence rather than one aimed at dunes. Steering is light and accurate, road noise stays low at highway pace, and the ride copes with Dubai's rougher stretches of asphalt better than the low roofline suggests it should. It won't hang with a Porsche Macan through a bend, and this generation was never built to try.
Five seats, no third row, and that's by design across every Velar. Two adults up front and two more in the back is what the car is built around. The rear bench suits adults on a shorter run, though the sloping roofline cuts into rear headroom more than the boxier Sport or full-size Range Rover, so a tall passenger in the back sits closer to the glass than in either of those. The boot holds 673 litres with the seats up, enough for one large case and a soft bag rather than a full family's set, and it opens to 1,731 litres with the rear seats folded for extra bags after a hotel checkout or an airport supermarket run. For a DXB or DWC pickup with two people and reasonable luggage, that's a clean fit. Add two more adults and a week of suitcases, and it gets tight fast, which is where the Range Rover Sport makes more sense.
Being a pre-facelift car, this Velar carries the dual-screen Touch Pro Duo dash rather than the single curved touchscreen Land Rover fitted from the following model year, with a row of physical toggle switches for climate control below the lower screen. It feels a step more analogue than the newer cars in this range, and for some renters that's a plus: real buttons for temperature and fan speed instead of hunting through a menu at 120 km/h. The exterior finish on this row is black, which pulls in more heat than the white cars on our fleet before you ever get back in, so a shaded or covered bay makes a real difference here. Once you're moving, the front vents pull the worst of a parked afternoon's heat out within a couple of minutes, and rear passengers get their own vents too, so nobody in the back is waiting on the front to catch up.
The 82-litre tank takes premium fuel, and Land Rover's combined figure for the P250 sits close to 9 L/100km. Real city driving in Dubai traffic runs higher, closer to 11 or 12 L/100km once air conditioning and stop-start roads are factored in, so budget for that rather than the brochure number. Salik tolls and any RTA fines picked up during the rental are the renter's responsibility, as with every car on this fleet. Ground clearance sits at 213 mm, enough for speed bumps and mall ramps without a second thought, though this isn't a car built for graded desert tracks.
Rent this Velar if you're 21 to 24 and want a design-led Range Rover for a week of city and highway driving with one other person and light luggage, and you don't mind a dashboard that predates the current single-screen layout. It's still quiet at speed, it still photographs well outside a Marina hotel, and the older interior earns its keep in exchange for a lower age requirement most Velar bookings don't offer.
Look elsewhere in two cases. Travelling as a family with real luggage, or needing more rear shoulder room, points you toward the Range Rover Sport or the full-size Range Rover, badge and presence intact with room to spare. If Hatta, desert tracks or serious ground clearance are part of the plan, this isn't the car, pre-facelift or otherwise. As a premium SUV, the Velar rents against a refundable deposit confirmed at booking, so this isn't a no-deposit rental. Your allowance is 250 km a day, with AED 0.5 for each additional kilometre after that, and you'll need to be 21 to take the keys.
