It reaches 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and pulls to a limited 240 km/h, quick enough that a Sheikh Zayed Road overtake needs a light squeeze of throttle rather than a run-up.

Off the tarmac the hardware is real, not decoration. Air suspension lifts the body to around 291 mm at its off-road height, the terrain response system reads the surface and adjusts the drivetrain for you, and the wading depth is rated to 900 mm, enough for a flooded crossing near Hatta after rain. The shorter wheelbase actually helps here: tighter approach and departure angles than the four-door car, useful on rutted ground that catches out longer SUVs. It's still a heavy, expensive vehicle, so soft, deep dune work wants someone who already reads sand and carries recovery gear, not a first attempt in a rental.

Three doors, five seats, and where the bags go

There's no fourth door on this body, which is the trade you're making for the smaller shape. Reaching the back seat means tipping or sliding the front seat forward rather than opening a door for whoever's sitting there. Fine once for two friends heading out for the day. Less fine if you're wrestling a child seat into place more than once a trip, so plan for that before you book.

The boot holds about 297 litres behind the rear seats, roughly a couple of soft weekend bags and a cooler, not a family's worth of suitcases. Fold the seats down and that opens up to 1,263 litres, useful if the trip is about gear rather than passengers. Read this as a car for two, or two plus a couple of light-packing friends, not a five-seat hauler for a week of airport runs. If you need four adults and their cases together, the longer four-door Defender elsewhere in the fleet is the one built for that.

Fuel economy, cabin heat and the case for white paint

A supercharged V8 in a smaller body is still a supercharged V8. The official combined figure is around 14.6 L/100km, and city traffic with any enthusiasm on the throttle pushes that higher. The 90-litre tank is good for roughly 600 km on paper, but plan on a fill closer to every 400 to 450 km once real Dubai driving and a constantly running AC are part of the mix.

This is where the white paint actually earns its keep. Leave a black or dark grey Defender in an unshaded mall lot for a few hours and the roof and bonnet come back genuinely hot to the touch, on top of the black trim that's warm regardless of colour underneath it. White reflects more of that sun rather than absorbing it, so the panels stay noticeably cooler and the AC has less soaked-in heat to fight when you get back in. It won't make the cabin cold the second you sit down. There's still glass and that black trim doing their own thing. But between the paler paint and the smaller volume of air this three-door cabin holds compared with the longer Defenders, it's one of the faster cars in the fleet to settle down after a hot afternoon. Give it a minute after starting before you load anyone in, and the front vents are already working by then. The shorter length also makes Marina and mall multi-storey ramps easier to place than the bigger Defender, and the ground clearance means speed bumps and steep ramp lips aren't something you think about. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, and under-fours need a proper child seat, worth planning for given the two-door access.

Who this white Defender suits, and who should size up

Rent this one if the two-door V8 is the actual point: a couple, or a small group who want genuine off-road ability, a car that turns heads, and a cabin that recovers from a hot parking lot faster than the darker versions in this fleet. On a Hatta morning or a desert weekend with one other couple, it's a properly good time and easy to park once you're back in the city.

Size up to the four-door Defender if you need seats and luggage room for a family or a group of four, since the extra doors and boot solve a problem this shape can't. If the fuel bill worries you more than the badge, a six-cylinder Land Rover does most of the same job for noticeably less at the pump.
