Press the throttle on this Land Rover Defender 2024 and a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 does the talking, which is reason enough that we let you rent it in Dubai and pay on delivery rather than upfront, cards or cash or even crypto if that's how you move. This is the 110 in V8 P525 trim, the 525 hp version that hits 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and still climbs a dune. The decision this page helps you make is narrow but expensive to get wrong. The V8 is the Defender you rent for pace and presence, not to save money, so the only question worth settling is whether you'll use enough of it to justify the fuel bill.
Most large SUVs in Dubai fake their attitude. The V8 Defender doesn't. The supercharger gives instant shove from low revs, the eight-speed auto drops a gear without thinking, and the noise on a hard pull is loud enough that people turn around. At 5.4 seconds to 100 km/h, it's quicker than plenty of hot hatches while weighing well over two tonnes.
That matters in real Dubai driving more than the figures suggest. Merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road in a packed left lane is effortless, and overtaking a slow truck on the E11 needs no run-up at all. You squeeze the pedal and the gap closes. The inline-six Defenders are quick too, but the V8 has a different character, and that character is the only honest reason to pay extra for it.

There's no soft way to put this. A supercharged V8 hauling this much mass is thirsty, and Dubai's stop-start crawl with the AC flat out pushes consumption past the official 14.7 L/100km, closer to 16 to 18 litres per 100 km in mixed city running. The 90-litre tank gives you a sensible cruising range on the highway, but a heavy week of errands means a fuel stop every two or three days.
So weigh the fuel against what you're getting. If the V8 sound and the launch are the reason you're booking, the running cost is part of the deal and you'll budget for it happily. If you mostly want a big, comfortable seven-seater for the school run and the mall, the inline-six version sips noticeably less for the same space, and we'd point you there instead.
The V8 doesn't trade capability for speed. It keeps the proper Defender hardware: permanent all-wheel drive, low range, and air suspension that lifts ground clearance to 291 mm in off-road height. Terrain Response sets the car up for sand at the turn of a dial, so a Hatta track or a desert camp run is well within reach once you air the tyres down. For the steep, technical stuff, remember it's wide and heavy, so this is a confident desert tourer rather than a featherweight dune toy.
On the road it's planted and quiet at a steady 120 on the E11, and the high seating position gives you a clear view over traffic. Speed bumps, mall ramps and raised kerbs that scrape lower cars are a non-event with this clearance.
Park it in July sun and the cabin bakes like any other car, but there's real cooling capacity here. The front vents pull the temperature down within a few minutes of setting off, and rear passengers get their own outlets, which counts when the back row has been sitting in 45-degree heat on an airport pickup. The leather feels like a griddle for the first minute, then the AC catches up.
Size is the cost of all that presence. At just over five metres long and two metres wide, the 110 fills a standard mall bay and needs care in older Marina basements. The 360-degree cameras help and the turning circle is better than the footprint looks, but tight underground parking is the one place this car asks for patience. On the running side, Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, seat belts are required in every seat, and an under-four needs a child seat we can fit on request.
Rent the V8 Defender 2024 if you want one car that does the desert weekend and the Sheikh Zayed Road commute with real pace, and you're happy to pay for petrol to get the engine and the presence that come with it. It's the pick for a Hatta trip with intent, a statement arrival, or simply wanting the fastest version of one of the most capable rentals on our fleet.
Skip it if fuel cost is the thing you're watching, or your week is pure city tarmac with tight basement parking. The inline-six Defender gives you the same space and the same off-road kit for a far gentler fuel bill, and a softer luxury crossover parks easier still. The V8's whole argument is the way it moves, so only pay for it if you're going to enjoy it.
