Land Rover Defender 2023 - start from 696 AED / day

The Land Rover Defender 2023 we rent in Dubai is the V8, and the first thing to be clear about is fuel. This is the supercharged 5.0-litre P525 making 525 horsepower, and it drinks like it. We deliver one to your door with the paperwork kept flexible and settled on the day, but the money you save on the booking, you'll spend at the pump. So the decision this page helps you make is blunt: the V8 Defender is only worth its rate if you'll actually use both the desert hardware and the highway pace, not if it spends the week idling in Marina traffic.

The V8, and what it costs to feed

There's no soft-pedalling the thirst. The supercharged V8's official combined figure sits around 14.7 litres per 100 km, and Dubai's stop-start traffic plus a constant AC load push real-world use closer to 16 to 18 in mixed city driving. The 90-litre tank gives a usable range, but on a heavy week in town you'll be back at the station every couple of days. If fuel cost is the thing you watch, this is the wrong Defender, and I'd say so at the desk.

What you get for that thirst is genuinely quick. The supercharger delivers instant shove off the line, the eight-speed automatic kicks down without drama, and the whole thing hits 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds while weighing over two tonnes. On the E11 it cruises at three figures unbothered, and overtaking is a non-event. The V8 note is loud enough to be a feature rather than a flaw.

Desert, wadis and the capability you're paying for

This is where the V8 Defender earns the rent over a soft crossover. The air suspension lifts ground clearance to 291 mm in off-road height, the four-wheel drive is permanent rather than a part-time gimmick, and Terrain Response has a proper sand setting that manages throttle and traction once you've dropped the pressures. For Hatta tracks, the rocky climbs near the pools and the gravel runs past Al Qudra, it has the clearance and grip to go where rental crossovers can't follow. Wading depth is around 900 mm, so a flooded wadi crossing after rain isn't a gamble.

A note of honesty, though. The V8 is heavy and wide, so a tight, soft, technical dune line is harder work than in a lighter 4x4. It will go almost anywhere, but it asks you to know what you're doing once the sand gets serious. If you've never aired down or driven soft sand, keep it to the firmer tracks.

Size, parking and living with it in town

The flip side of all that capability is bulk. At just over five metres long and nearly two wide, this Defender fills a standard Marina bay and turns some older multi-storey ramps into a fold-the-mirrors, watch-the-cameras affair. The 360-degree camera suite helps a lot, and the commanding view forward makes placing it easier than the footprint suggests. Speed bumps and steep garage ramps are simply no concern with that ride height.

For airport runs to DXB or DWC, the boot takes a real load. The 972 litres behind the second row swallows three or four large cases plus soft bags, and folding the rear seats opens it right up. Five adults travel in comfort, but it's a roomy five-seater rather than a true seven, so a big group should look at a dedicated people-mover.

Heat, and how the cabin copes

Cabin cooling is handled properly here, which you'd expect at this level. After a 45-degree soak the Defender pulls the temperature down fast because there's real cooling capacity, and rear passengers get their own vents, which matters on a school run or an airport pickup when the back seats have been baking. The leather can feel like a griddle for the first minute, then the AC catches up quickly. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, and a child seat is required for under-fours.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the V8 Defender 2023 if you want one car that does the desert weekend and the Sheikh Zayed Road commute with equal confidence, and you're happy to pay for petrol to get the V8 and the presence. It's the pick for a Hatta trip with real off-road intent, an airport run with serious luggage, or simply arriving somewhere and being seen doing it.

If you'll never leave tarmac, skip it. A softer luxury crossover parks easier, sips far less fuel and gives you most of the comfort for a fraction of the running cost. The Defender's whole argument is the capability paired with the pace, and there's no point paying for either if the week is spent crawling along Jumeirah Beach Road.
