Rent Land Rover Defender 2023 in Dubai

Most SUVs on a Dubai rental lot are styled for the school run, not built for a Hatta track. The Land Rover Defender 2023 is one of the few that is genuinely engineered for both, and this three-door, five-seat version rents here with the same 5.0-litre supercharged V8, air suspension and full-time all-wheel drive that Land Rover fits across the whole Defender range. We get it to your door within one to two hours of booking. The question worth settling before you pay a V8 rate is whether you will actually use that capability, or whether a badge SUV without the underpinnings would do the same job for less.

The engine, drivetrain and what it can actually do off-road

The number that matters first is 525 hp from the supercharged V8, sent through an eight-speed automatic to all four wheels, full time, no part-time transfer case to think about. It reaches 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and keeps pulling to a limited 240 km/h, which on Sheikh Zayed Road means overtaking is a light squeeze of the throttle rather than a run-up.

What separates this from most of the SUVs parked around it is what happens when the tarmac stops. Air suspension lifts the body to around 291 mm at its off-road setting, it wades through 900 mm of water, and the shorter three-door wheelbase gives it steeper approach and departure angles than the longer Defenders in the fleet, useful on the rutted, rocky stretches near Hatta that can catch out a bigger SUV. Pick the right terrain mode, air the tyres down, and it climbs ground that would turn a sedan around. Two honest limits: this is a heavy, expensive vehicle, so soft dune work still wants someone who already reads sand and carries recovery gear, and none of the above matters if your week never leaves the highway.

Space, boot and the daily use

There is no rear door on this body and no third row to fold away. Five seats, three doors, which means reaching the back means tipping or sliding the front seat forward rather than swinging a door open. For two adults heading out for the day that is a non-issue. Wrestling a child seat into place more than once a trip, it becomes the reason to look at a longer Defender instead.

The boot holds about 297 litres behind the rear seats, roughly two soft bags and a cooler, not a family's worth of hard cases. Fold the seats and that grows to 1,263 litres, plenty for camping kit or a desert-day haul. Treat this as a car for a couple, or a couple plus one or two light-packing friends, not a five-seat family hauler for a week of mall runs and airport pickups. Four adults with real luggage need the four-door Defender in the fleet, not this one.

Running cost, heat and the cabin

A supercharged V8 does not sip fuel because the body is shorter. The official combined figure sits around 14.6 L/100km, and Dubai stop-start traffic with any real throttle use pushes that higher. The 90-litre tank is rated for roughly 600 km on paper, but plan on refuelling closer to every 400 to 450 km once city driving and a constantly running AC are part of the mix.

The smaller cabin pays you back here. There is less air to cool than in the longer Defenders, so after a few hours parked in the August sun it pulls down to comfortable faster once you climb back in, and the front vents are strong enough to notice within a minute of the AC running. Give it that minute before loading anyone in. At 4.58 metres the car is also easier to place on Marina and mall multi-storey ramps than its longer siblings, and the ground clearance means speed bumps and steep ramp lips are not something you think about. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are on the renter, as with every car here, and under-fours need a proper child seat, worth planning for given the two-door access to the back row.

Who should rent it, and who should look elsewhere

Book this Defender if the point is genuine off-road ability in a car you actually want to be seen in: a couple, or a small group, heading to Hatta or a desert morning near the dunes, who do not need to carry more than a couple of bags between them. It is one of the few vehicles in this fleet where the ground clearance and the terrain modes are not decoration.

Look elsewhere if you need four doors and real luggage room for a family, in which case the longer Defender in the fleet carries the same V8 without the seating and boot compromise. If the fuel bill worries you more than the badge, a six-cylinder Land Rover does most of the same job for meaningfully less at the pump, and being the oldest model year in the V8 line-up, this 2023 already sits at the lower end of what the V8 cars cost to rent.
