Land Rover Defender 2022 - start from 615 AED / day

Few 4x4s manage to look this serious and still pamper you inside, but the Land Rover Defender 2022 does both, and we can have one outside your door in Dubai within one to two hours of you booking. This is the 110, the long five-door body with the 3.0-litre mild-hybrid inline-six and 400 hp under the bonnet, so it climbs a dune as readily as it slips into valet at a five-star hotel. The question this page settles is simple. If you want genuine Hatta and desert capability with a cabin that feels like money well spent, the Defender earns its keep. If you only ever touch tarmac, we'll tell you where a softer crossover makes more sense.

What the Defender 110 actually is

This is the modern Defender, not the boxy farm tool the name used to mean. The 110 rides on air suspension, runs permanent all-wheel drive through an eight-speed automatic, and pairs an off-road-ready chassis with a cabin trimmed in a way that holds up next to a Range Rover. The 400 hp six pulls it to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, quick for something this tall and heavy, and it tops out around 191 km/h. On Sheikh Zayed Road it sits at the limit without strain and overtakes cleanly. Presence is part of the appeal too, and for a lot of renters the way it turns heads at the Marina matters as much as the hardware underneath.

Does the family and the gear fit

The 110 seats five comfortably, with a 5+2 option that adds a third row for two more. Be honest with yourself about that third row. It's fine for kids on a short hop to the beach or the airport, but adults won't want it for long. With five aboard the boot swallows a week's luggage and a stroller without a fight, and folding the rear bench opens up a genuinely large flat load space for bulkier kit.

Rear passengers get their own air vents, which matters more here than the brochure suggests. In a cabin this size, vents front and rear are the difference between everyone being comfortable and the people behind you cooking.

Heat, parking and Dubai daily life

Park a Defender in open sun in July and the cabin hits oven temperatures. The climate system has the output to bring it back down within a few minutes of setting off, and the rear vents spread that cold air properly through a long cabin.

Size is the trade-off you accept. At a touch over five metres long and two metres wide, the 110 needs thought in tight Marina basements and older multi-storey bays. The cameras and sensors are excellent and the turning circle is better than the footprint suggests, but you'll still want to pick your space rather than squeeze the first one. The flip side is clearance. At 291 mm on the air suspension, speed bumps, mall ramps and raised kerbs that scrape a normal car are a non-event.

A quick note on the rules. Salik tolls run on your account while the car's with you, and any RTA fines pass to you, so watch the speed limits. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat.

Hatta, the dunes and the real reason to take the 110

This is where the Defender stops being a fashion statement. The air suspension raises the body for that 291 mm of clearance, the terrain response modes set the car up for sand at the turn of a dial, and the 900 mm wading depth means a flooded wadi after rain doesn't stop you. For a Hatta run or a desert camp, this is one of very few rentals genuinely built for it rather than just dressed for it. Air the tyres down, pick the sand setting, and the 110 handles soft dunes with real confidence. If you don't plan to leave the tarmac, though, you're paying to carry capability you'll never use.

Fuel and the airport run

A 90-litre tank is large, which is just as well, because 400 hp and two-plus tonnes don't sip. Expect around 11 to 12 litres per 100 km in normal Dubai driving, more if you lean on it. For a week of city errands and a couple of airport runs to DXB or DWC you'll refuel once, maybe twice.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Defender 110 if you want one car that does the school run, the highway cruise, the hotel forecourt and a weekend in the dunes without compromise, and you don't mind paying for fuel and parking a big vehicle with care. It's a strong call for visiting families who want space, presence and a genuine desert option in the same booking.

Skip it if your week is pure tarmac with no off-road plans and tight city parking. In that case a softer mid-size crossover is cheaper to run, easier to slot into a Marina bay, and gives up nothing you'd actually use. The Defender's brilliance is the breadth of what it can do. Pay for that breadth only if you're going to use it.
