Not every Defender needs white paint and a roof rack to prove it means business. The Land Rover Defender 2022 on this page comes in brown, a colour that reads as work truck rather than showpiece, which suits a vehicle built to wade a wadi crossing on a Saturday and sit in ordinary Sheikh Zayed Road traffic on Monday. We get it to your Dubai address within one to two hours of booking, so there's no showroom stop between deciding and driving. Under that low-key paint sits the full supercharged V8, the same drivetrain Land Rover fits regardless of colour. The real question is whether that much car, quietly dressed, is what your week actually calls for.

Brown paint gives nothing away about what's underneath. This is the 5.0-litre supercharged V8, 525 hp and 625 Nm through an eight-speed automatic, with a claimed 5.4 seconds to 100 km/h and a limited top speed of 240 km/h. Full-time all-wheel drive and the terrain response system read the road or the sand and adjust the drivetrain accordingly, and air suspension can lift the body to around 291 mm of ground clearance with a wading depth rated to 900 mm.
On the highway that translates into an overtake on the E11 that needs barely a thought, and a cruise at 120 that feels like the engine is loafing. Point it at a graded Hatta track or a firm stretch of sand near the dune line and the same system that soaks up a Marina speed bump gets you through without drama. It's still a heavy, expensive 4x4, so soft dune driving is a job for someone who already reads sand and carries recovery gear, not a first attempt on a rental.
This body seats five, not seven. There's no fold-away third row to worry about, which keeps the cabin simpler: every passenger gets a proper door and a proper seat, not a jump seat meant for occasional use. For two adults and a couple of kids, or four adults travelling together, that's the whole car, not a compromise version of a bigger one.
Land Rover doesn't publish a single boot figure for this body that every source agrees on, so we won't hand you a made-up litre count. What matters in practice: with the seats up it takes several large cases and a couple of soft bags without a fight, and folding the rear seats opens up enough floor for camping gear or a proper airport-run load. It won't match the cargo bay of the seven-seat long-wheelbase Defender with its third row folded away, but you're also not hauling two extra seats around for a trip that never uses them.
A supercharged V8 doesn't sip fuel because the paint is subtle. The official combined figure sits around 14.6 L/100km, and Dubai's stop-start traffic with any real throttle use pushes that higher in practice. The 90-litre tank is rated for roughly 600 km on paper, but plan on a fill closer to every 400 to 450 km once city driving and a constantly running AC are part of the routine.
The five-seat cabin has less air to cool than the seven-seat version of this car, so it settles to a comfortable temperature faster after a few hours parked in the sun. Give it a minute after you climb back in before loading everyone, and the front vents will already be pulling hard, with the second row getting proper outlets of its own rather than a trickle off the dash. At just over five metres long, this isn't a car you thread into a tight bay without thinking, so Marina and mall multi-storey ramps ask for a bit of care, though the high seating position, full camera set and generous clearance make speed bumps and steep ramp lips non-events. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, and under-fours need a proper child seat.
Rent this one if you want the real V8, real off-road ability, and a straightforward five-seat cabin, and you'd rather the car not announce itself in the car park. Brown doesn't draw a crowd the way white or a bright colour does, and underneath it you're getting the identical drivetrain and terrain system as every other V8 Defender in the fleet. For a family of four or a small group with a Hatta morning or a desert weekend on the plan, it does the job without asking to be looked at.
Look elsewhere if you need a sixth or seventh seat even occasionally. The long-wheelbase Defender with the occasional third row covers that and this body doesn't. If it's really just two people most of the time, the shorter three-door V8 is easier to park and just as quick. And if the fuel bill worries you more than the badge, a six-cylinder Land Rover does most of the same week for meaningfully less at the pump. Our policy on this car runs 250 km a day, then AED 0.5 for every extra kilometre, and you need to be 25 to take the keys. Being a premium vehicle, it carries a refundable deposit rather than a no-deposit booking. Book it for the capability under the paint, not the paint itself, and it earns its keep.
