We hand over the Range Rover Sport 2023 with payment sorted however suits you, card, cash, bank transfer or a tap of Apple Pay or Google Pay when the car reaches you. That flexibility matters less than the car itself, though. This is the Range Rover that drives like it wants to be driven: lower, tauter and sharper-looking than the full-size model, with the same plush cabin and the same genuine ability to leave the tarmac. If you want a premium SUV that's actually fun on Sheikh Zayed Road and still happy in the dunes, this is the one to book, as long as you're honest about its size, its thirst, and the way options change what you get.
The 2023 Sport comes in three flavours that drive differently enough to be worth knowing which is on the key. The headline car is the P530, a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 making 523 HP, good for 0 to 100 in 4.5 seconds and a 250 km/h limiter. Below it sits the inline-six mild hybrid at 395 HP, smoother and lighter on its nose, and a plug-in hybrid at 434 HP that runs around 82 km on battery alone. All get the 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
The V8 is the one people picture, and it earns it. Overtaking on the E11 is a non-event, you squeeze the throttle and the car is simply somewhere else. The six is no slouch and most renters won't feel short-changed, but if the booking is about the noise and the shove, ask for the V8.
This is a big car. At 4,946 mm long and 2,209 mm wide across the mirrors, it fills a lane and it fills a parking bay. Marina multi-storey ramps and the tighter mall basements are where you'll feel it, the nose is long and the rear three-quarter view is thick. The 360-degree camera takes the stress out of bay parking once you trust it, which happens by about day two.
Around town the air suspension does quiet work, softening speed bumps that jar lesser SUVs and lowering the car on entry so getting in is easy. Just don't expect a big SUV to shrink. If most of your week is short hops between basement car parks, a smaller crossover is the easier tool.
The boot is genuinely useful. Two large suitcases and a couple of soft bags go in flat with the rear seats up, which covers a family of four arriving at DXB or DWC with a week's luggage. Fold the second row and it swallows far more. Five seats only, so a sixth passenger means looking elsewhere, but for four adults and their cases the Sport is comfortable rather than compromised.
Park a dark-coloured Sport in August sun and the cabin will be brutal for the first minute. After that the climate system does its job properly, pulling a 45-degree cabin down to bearable within a few minutes and cold not long after. There are rear vents, so passengers in the back aren't an afterthought, and the seats can be cooled on most trims. In a Dubai summer it's the spec that matters most after the engine.
This is where the Sport separates itself from rivals that only look rugged. With the air suspension raised to its off-road setting the ground clearance climbs to 281 mm, and the all-wheel-drive system with its terrain modes handles soft sand and rocky tracks without drama. A Hatta day trip or a proper desert outing is well within its limits. Drop tyre pressures, pick the sand mode, and it goes where you point it, far more capable than most luxury SUVs you'll see in the same car park.
Be honest with yourself about the V8's appetite. The 90-litre tank is large, but city driving in the heat with the AC working hard will drink it. Expect to fill up roughly twice a week on normal Dubai use, more if you're enjoying the engine. The quoted combined range near 1,111 km is a gentle highway figure you won't see in stop-start traffic. The mild hybrid is the kinder choice on fuel, and the plug-in hybrid makes sense only if you can actually charge it.

Every Salik gantry you cross is yours, and speed enforcement on the E11 is heavy, so RTA fines come back to the renter too. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat and children under four need a proper child seat. Stricter security terms can apply on a car at this value, so confirm what's needed at booking.
Book the Sport if you want a luxury SUV that's actually engaging to drive and you'll use the capability, fast highway runs, the odd desert weekend, a cabin that pampers four. Take the V8 if the drive is the point and the fuel bill doesn't bother you, or the mild hybrid if you want most of the experience for less at the pump.
If your week is all comfort and no corners, the full-size Range Rover rides plusher and feels grander. And if you're mostly threading basement car parks and doing school runs, a smaller crossover will save you fuel, parking stress and money without missing much you'll actually use.
