Zero to 100 km/h takes 5.9 seconds, which is enough to close a gap on Sheikh Zayed Road in one committed push rather than a long build-up. It is not the supercharged V8 some people expect when they see the badge, and it does not pretend to be. What it does well is stay quiet at a cruise and smooth out the stop-start crawl through Downtown or JBR, where the mild-hybrid system does more of the work than the spec sheet suggests.

Air suspension is standard, and it is the part that actually justifies the price over a cheaper SUV with similar numbers on paper. Broken tarmac, speed bumps and the raised sections on older stretches of the E11 get absorbed rather than felt, whether you are doing forty through a car park or holding a fast cruise past 120.

Boot space and back-seat room for the week

Five seats, and the back bench is genuinely comfortable for two adults on a longer run, not just a token gap behind the front seats. The boot holds 780 litres with the rear seats up, room for a large case each plus the soft bags that come with a family trip, and folding the seats flat opens it to 1,761 litres for a proper airport haul or a supermarket run before guests arrive.

Size is the honest cost of that room. At 4,879 mm long and just under two metres wide, the Sport wants a slower, more deliberate line into a tight Marina ramp or an older multi-storey bay than a mid-size SUV would, though it clears a mall entrance without a second thought. Ground clearance sits at 213 mm unladen and rises to around 278 mm on the air suspension's highest setting, so a steep villa driveway or a speed bump taken a touch too fast will not scrape the way it would in a lower car.

Silver paint, the AC, and what fuel really costs

Silver earns its keep in this climate in a way people underestimate. A parked cabin still heats up through a July afternoon in any colour, that part of the physics does not change, but silver reflects more of the sun than black does, so the exterior panels and door handles run cooler to the touch, and the cabin starts from a slightly lower baseline before the AC has to catch up. It also means the car looks presentable for longer between washes, which matters if a week of driving includes any unpaved parking or a dusty stretch out past the city limits. The climate system pulls the cabin down within a couple of minutes of setting off, with its own vents for rear passengers, so nobody in the back is waiting on air drifting from the front. Cracking a window for the first minute before you get back in still helps more than anything the AC does on its own.

Running cost is where the badge asks more of you than it looks. The tank holds 105 litres of premium petrol, and the official combined figure sits near 9 to 10 L/100km, best treated as a floor rather than a promise once the AC is working hard against the heat. Rent this one if you want the L494 Sport specifically: the mild-hybrid six, the air suspension, and a cabin that still reads as a proper Range Rover, in a colour that will not show every dust storm or valet scuff between washes. It is one of the more comfortable, better-riding ways to cover ground on these roads, and silver is the easiest colour on this fleet to keep looking clean without extra effort on your part.

Look at the newer L461-generation Sport elsewhere on our fleet if sharper handling and the latest cabin tech matter more to you than this car's proven, slightly older layout, the redesigned platform is a genuinely different drive, not just a facelift. If your week is mostly tight city parking and short hops, a smaller SUV will also be easier to place in a multi-storey bay.
