Land Rover Range Rover SVR 2021 - start from 969 AED / day

We rent the Range Rover 2021 across Dubai with 250 km a day included, handed to you wherever you are in the city. This is the L405, the last of the long-running full-size Range Rover before the 2022 redesign, and it still does the one thing this car has always done better than almost anything else: it arrives quietly and makes everyone notice anyway. Air suspension, a hushed cabin, AWD that can genuinely cross sand most owners never touch. What you're really deciding here is whether you want the original luxury-SUV statement for a week, or whether your driving suits something smaller and easier to park.

What you're actually getting

The version we run is the P400, a 3.0-litre supercharged inline-six with mild-hybrid assist, AWD, and the ZF eight-speed automatic. Around 400 hp, but the number isn't the point. The point is the way it moves. The air ride floats over Dubai's speed bumps and broken patches of older neighbourhood roads without the jolt you feel in a firmer SUV, and on Sheikh Zayed Road it settles into a long, effortless cruise where 120 feels like 80. Overtaking a slow lorry on the E11 takes a light press and a half-second of patience while the gearbox thinks, then it's gone.

It's heavy and you feel that in the light, slightly remote steering. This isn't a car you fling at corners. You waft in it, and once you stop expecting sharpness, the calm is the whole appeal.

Riding in the back

If you're being driven, or driving family, the rear is where this car earns its keep. Two adults stretch out with proper legroom, the seats are wide and soft, and the ride quality back there is as good as the front. It seats five, but four is where it's genuinely first-class. Three across the back is fine for kids on a school run, less so for three grown adults on a long airport haul.

Dubai heat is the real test, and the Range Rover handles it well. Leave it baking in a mall car park at 45 degrees and the cabin is unpleasant for the first minute, same as anything, but the AC pulls it down fast and there are proper rear vents so the back doesn't stay an oven while the front cools. For a family in July, that matters more than almost any other feature.

A note for parents: child seats are required for under-fours under RTA rules, and the wide rear bench takes them easily with room to spare.

Luggage and the airport run

The boot swallows a family's airport load without drama. Think four large hard cases plus the soft bags and a buggy, with the powered tailgate and the split design making the lift easy. For a DXB or DWC pickup with a full family and a week of luggage, you're not playing Tetris. This is one of the few SUVs in Dubai where space genuinely isn't a question you have to ask.

Parking it, honestly

Here's where I'll talk you out of it if your week is the wrong shape. The Range Rover is five metres long and over two metres wide with the mirrors. In Marina towers, older mall multi-storeys, and tight valet-free bays, that width is a real job. Some height-limited car parks around the city sit close to its roofline, so check the barrier before you commit. The cameras and sensors are good and the air suspension can drop the car to make stepping out easier, but none of that shrinks the footprint. If most of your week is solo city errands and squeezing into basement parking, a midsize luxury SUV will save you the daily aggravation.

Fuel, Salik, and the running cost

This is a thirsty car and I won't pretend otherwise. The official figure sits around 10 litres per 100 km, but Dubai reality, with the AC fighting the heat and stop-start traffic on the way to the office, runs noticeably higher. On a week of mostly city driving you'll be at the pump more than you'd like. The 104-litre tank means long highway runs to Hatta or Abu Dhabi go a comfortable distance between fills, but in town, budget for fuel and don't be surprised.

Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, the same as with any car here. With a vehicle this size you'll likely cross a few toll gates on the daily commute, so factor that in.

Hatta, the desert, and the part nobody uses

The air suspension lifts to nearly 297 mm and the AWD with its terrain modes is the real thing. Take it to Hatta, point it down a graded desert track, deflate the tyres a touch, and it'll go places that genuinely surprise people who think of it as a school-run car. Almost no renter ever does this. But if your week includes a desert weekend or a run up into the mountains, the capability is sitting there, fully formed, and it changes what the car is for.

Who should rent it

Rent the Range Rover 2021 if you want presence and rear-seat comfort above everything: a status arrival at a hotel or wedding, a family that wants to travel in genuine quiet, or a Hatta weekend where the ground clearance actually gets used. It's the original luxury SUV and it still delivers that better than the price suggests.

Skip it if your week is mostly solo errands and tight basement parking, where a midsize luxury SUV is far less hassle. And if you want the newest cabin tech and screens, the post-2022 Range Rover is a generation ahead inside. But for the classic full-size Range Rover feel, the L405 in its final year is the one to have.
